Assuming this is ok to post in today’s finds….found about a year ago, but “refound” a day or two ago after looking through some other coins in the gun safe. No idea that this one was rare. She’s not in good shape (understatement) but 220 yrs in the ground will do that to the best of us. After looking, there were only ~100k minted…..not sure how many left. Any insight from the coin gurus would be appreciated.

I can't see the date but that's an awesome super rare find if it is genuine. They were many forgeries of that coin made in the 1860s. I hope yours is an original!

Didn’t know that. Thanks for the information.

Actually the 1860 coins weren’t forgeries, they were restrikes by the mint made for collectors of the more rare 1804. The key to identifying them is with the 4 in the date. Originals have a crosslet 4. I can see the crosslet on your coin. An original!👍🏻👌

Thank you for the insight. Assumed it was real, but nice to get confirmation.

hadn’t thought about that as a possibility, as I’ve never found a 1/2 cent that I know of. Appears same size as a large cent. Just measured. Diameter is 1.15”

Edit: Some quick googling says a 1/2 cent is 23mm (<1”) and a large cent is 28.6 mm (~1.1”), so I’m saying yes, large cent

Additional note……just got it in good light and the reverse says “one cent”. It’s a large cent.

Thank you for bringing up the 1/2 cent as a possibility. Need to go look through my other large cents to make sure some of them aren’t 1/2s.
