that could be a homemade fishing weight. Found a couple of those too. like miller said, any creeks,lakes,rivers near by? Only problem i have with it being civil war era is the patina.

you talked like you had more than one, and they were different weights??? might be from the bottom of a seine. used corks to keep the top floating, and weights to keep the bottom down............. my dad always caught his own bait! was on the deep end of a seine many times!
