It's been a great couple of months! 1 Real, 3-Cent Pieces, Buttons, Relics

I'm not even sure where to begin... it's been a while since I posted my finds. I have been too busy with work and detecting, but mostly I kinda wanted to wait till I got a digital camera. Using my outdated cellphone camera with a plastic magnifying 'glass' just wasn't cutting it... now I got super-macro 14 megapixel goodness at my disposal! :notworthy:

The Real is a 1 Real, 1773 Guatemala mint, "P" Assayer mark. It was shallow and my E-trac screamed with pleasure when my coil passed over it. I did not scratch it. The person who lost it must have. My oldest silver yet. :headbang:

The 3-Cent Pieces are 1851, 1852 (no mint marks).

The large copper is unknown. :dontknow: The small copper is probably an IH. :icon_scratch:

The buttons - most of my buttons have come from these woods. I enjoy finding and collecting them. Especially these oldies! I just wish they were in better shape... Note the eagle button. The pictures don't really bring out what gilt is left. It's a shame it's in such bad shape. :'(

The video is of my hunt today recorded using my new Veho Muvi. It's so handy for stuff like this! 8)

Enjoy!

Great silver, and even better being Guatemala. (They almost always book higher, and of course would be a fairly scarce find to dig)

Re: It's been a great couple of months! 1 Real, 3-Cent Pieces, Buttons, Relics etc..

Thanks everyone!

I thought I would mention that, between myself and my 2 metal detecting friends, we have found a total of 8 three-cent pieces this year. I sure we are all happy the older generations of metal detectors missed or skipped these targets!

Ironpatch, when I found out it was Guatemalan mint I hoping the coin could talk to me and tell me it's story about how it ended up in the woods of NJ. I wish it was in better shape but I am still way happy and satisfied that I found it.

Thanks again!

Dale,

Nice going on the 3 cent piece. You are the Trimemeister. It seems like the etrac is a Trime Vacuum! The video came out great, and you did a nice job editing.

I am pretty sure I have another piece of the bell. I am posting my recent finds here, most of which are from those woods and you can match up the bell. The picture is not worthy of its own post, but when you start to group our finds together, it illustrates just how great the site is.

It has been nearly a year since a Large Copper has been pulled from the site. I am sure there are at least a few more hiding there.

One more thing...The damp sandy parts of the site also gave up a lot of chiggers last summer, as well as its share of ticks, mosquitoes and poison ivy. Proceed with caution!

I was wondering when you were going to post. Nice finds! Tons of buttons as usual, and yes that certainly looks like another part of the bell.

Poison Ivy you say?? :D Mine just cleared up 4 days ago... damn it was itchy! I have certainly seen my fair share of all the bugs you mentioned... but I am not really sure what a chigger looks like. :dontknow:

Another thing to watch out for is THORNS. I got stuck along my leg around the same time I got the poison ivy and i STILL have itchy red bumps from where the thorns pierced me! So annoying...

I might just go out again today... looks like the rain has cleared up.

Congrats on finding your oldest silver. Now you have a new mark to beat!

NI C E silvers and relics ;D If U could see them a chigger it would look like this icon :angry5: They will make you scratch like a dog with fleas , sometimes worse than ivy . They like tall grass . I hit a nest of them last year. The horror was very much like an army of micro venomous spiders eating me alive. :o Spray lots of deep woods off all over legs and socks ,shoes before you go in the bush . dawg

OMG that sounds horrible. My apartment was infested with fleas once. I would hate to relive something like that again. I do use deep woods off (head to toe), and carry some with me at all times!

I had a new insect experience today. I was attacked by a swarm of small horseflies. They bit me on the neck and I ran like the wind to get away!

That was one great video that you produced! Your 1 reale is a very nice example of that period. Guatemala makes that a very interesting find....they are quite rare.. :icon_thumright:

Guess what... you were right! I found a LC there today. It's cruddy but identifiable. I will have a vid and pics a bit later in the week. :icon_pirat:
