Charles III 1/2 Real and some relics

I spent a couple hours Sunday at a former homesite in the woods. Early into my search I dug this 1/2 Real of King Charles III minted in Mexico City. The last two digits of the date are missing, but I think it is from the 1780s. It is well-worn and knicked by my shovel 😣, but I still like it. Also dug an open top thimble, which tailors were apparently known to use. I also found a complete octagonal cufflink, which I’ve read were popular until about the 1760s, at which time the oval links became more common. Rounding out the finds were five buttons and a mystery object. Thanks and good luck out there.

I see a 6 after the 17 but could be wrong…

Thanks! It looked a bit like a six to me too, and he was king in the 1760s; however, I don’t think they put portraits on the coins until the 1770s.

The 3rd # is a 7. I've found a few of these on the beach and the leg on the third # is angled like a 7 and it's not an 8. So it's 1172-1779 date...

Thanks! That’s two votes for 1772, though I still struggle to see that date myself. Sounds like you have more experience with Reals than I do, so you may be right. Thanks again.

This is my 1772 1 Reales that I found on the beach earlier this year....The angle of the 7 is usually not lined up with the second 7. Most Carles III reales were 1770's anyway...Hope this helps

Thank you pepperj. I don’t see any sort of pin mount on the back, but I suppose it could be lost to corrosion. The back is mostly blank, except for a couple indents about a third of the way up from the bottom. Maybe a stamped number? View attachment 2146774
