Hey everyone!
Got my 3rd day a row of hunting in this weekend and I’m beat. Can’t complain too much though because I know a lot of the country is snowed/iced in.
Today started off hot. I had 5 wheats in the first 30 minutes. I thought that really pink colored one was silver for a minute. After that first stretch, things cooled way off. For the next 3+ hours I managed 3 more wheats but mostly was striking out.
I forced myself to detect a little longer as I had almost finished out the area I mapped to start the day and I am glad I did!
I was in an area where I could tell some fill dirt had been laid down but maybe only an inch or two. Nothing much had been turning up and I got another routine 12.44/11.44 at 4 inches. I was shocked to see silver in the hole and even more shocked and pumped to see a Barber! 1907-S. Turns out it’s a date I haven’t found yet. Awesome!
Shortly thereafter I got a pretty good but masked signal at 3 inches. I pulled a nail out of the hole and figured there had to be more. Then, I saw a half dollar in the hole! (So I thought). I was so pumped I said out loud “What is that?” out loud to myself as people walked by haha. Oops.
Well, it wasn’t quite a half dollar but it was still an awesome find. A Souvenir token from the 1939 New York World’s Fair with the Communications Building on the back and the name John D Martin carved into it.
I also eyeballed the gold-colored coin near the end of the hunt if anyone recognizes it and wants to chime in.
Thanks so much for looking and reading and happy hunting as always!!
