In TN And near us was a 1796 house. I got permission by the original family that still lives there. Also I only had about 30 minutes their. And this is what I found. And an unknown bullet with rifling

Very cool finds , bet! there is more there & at yr Grandparents house.
BTW, Yr bullet looks like a 45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) With FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) 'Brass Jacket.
Could be a FMJ 9 mm as well.
Seem's we got some competition for what Civil War & other relics are left.
