The shorelines are all that is open for detecting here, as theres still a foot of snow in the woods. Luckily, the shorelines often have some nice old finds. Got the usual musketballs, relics, toasted copper coins and a few modern silver. Had a solid low-mid tone and thought I was digging a button, when to my surprise, a little silver coin popped out. I could see right away that it was broken. The details are crisp and I was so happy to see a little silver trime! (1851-1853) The broken edge initially looked like an old break, but after I got home and ran it under water, I could tell that it was new. I can't believe I did that!!!!! The tide came up and covered the area a few times since then, so the chances of finding the missing piece is slim. I'm going to give it a shot though! It will be a week before I can go back there. Wish me luck!

Congrats. Dont worry about it being broken. Those things are so thin you can just look at one and it breaks. I broke one just lightly rinsing it off with water

Congrats on the 2 cent piece!:laughing7: Those are super hard to find,Ive never found one and I hunt HARD! You have to have the PLACE and the disc open enough to see it,and after that you might get wildly lucky. A bucket lister on most people’s list....very high on mine!

Coins that size like trimes, fishscales, and half dimes are hard to find just as you say. Which is why I tend to hunt in all metal modes where I can hear it all.

It's funny, I have 11 Spanish silver, and this was my first Trime. I would have thought the Spanish would be harder to find, but I guess not lol. I dont want to sound greedy, but I hope a better trime comes up at one of my sites this year. They are one of my favorite design coins ever minted!

I find alot of US coins here. Being fairly close to the border helps lol. Maine is about 30 minutes away. It's more common to find colonial era US coins mixed in with British, Scottish and Irish because of the influx of Loyalists and Quakers to the area in the 1780s.

See I never found a copper in my life. Lot’s of Spanish down here and I’ve also found some Capped half dimes as well. Found a beautiful 1829 8 reales in a sidewalk strip but cannot for the life of me find a Large Cent. Sounds like you have the best of both words besides that cold. We hunt all year around down here but our humid summers will choke a mule. Lol

Nice old finds, congrats!

Isn't that weird how that happens! I have 5 8Reales, 3 2Reales, a 1 reale, a half reale and a half reale cob. Tons of coppers, but only 3 seated silvers, 4 barbers and ZERO walkers! That's another one for the wish list.. a Walker! We can usually get a shovel in the ground in mid April and can dig until November (sometimes december)

Holy Reales!!! You’re killing me. Man never got a 2 reales and I saw my friend get a Walker not to long ago at a park. Got the Barbers except that dang quarter. Crazy crazy hobby.

Nothing like finding a piece of "cut silver" :headbang: Mighty fine batch of goodies!

Very cool. No trimes out our way as of yet.....certainly not holding my breath as well. :BangHead:

Hey, you never know! I didn't think I'd ever find one either. It registered between a low and mid tone (around the same as a button) so dig it all!

It took me 16 years to find my trime and I may never find another, but who knows. Congratulations on the nice assortment of finds and condolences on the shovel opps. I know how that feels. It got my first flying eagle cent a short time ago and scratch the eagle with my trowel cutting it out of the frozen block of dirt it was in. 17 years to find and 17 seconds to mess it up. Man was I upset.

Good luck finding the missing piece. I hope you get lucky. Keep swingin.

It only took you 6 years ? I've been doing this for 30 years, and still haven't found one ! That is one of the few coins left on my wish list. Congrats on a nice series coin, even if it is a partial piece.

That thing has a lot of character. Great find just like it is, even if you don't find the other piece.
