I took today off from work and met up with Shovelnose. He promised to take me to a site that he has pulled several silvers including a Barber Quarter last week and a silver Peace dollar earlier this year. We met up at his house and went to the site. Expecting to see an old farm house I see a brand new house. I'm thinking what? Apparently the original house was torn down and replaced with the new one. Well I finally did it. I got a 12 46 signal and thinking it was clad quarter pulled this beauty. An 1895-O Barber Quarter. My first Barber Quarter and my first pre-1900 silver. It has taken 5 years but I finally did it. Thank God I got this one off my back! Thanks John! Much appreciated.

Very nicely done! I haven't been searching nearly that long but I'm in a silver coin drought bad. Found quite a bit of silver jewelry but my passion is old silver coins. In 6-7 months of swinging I have only found two silver coins. A 27 mercury and 61 dime. Prob found 30 dimes and quarters the year clad started for them. My luck will change. Glad you got that monkey off your back and now you'll prob find another soon.

Good job , I've been trying for nine years and haven't found it yet .

As another new member of the 1800s silver club I would like to welcome you to our ranks! Lol

Congrats! I know the excitement you must have felt when you saw it!

I've found barber dimes and even a few barber halves but never a barber quarter. I love the Eagle design on the back of those coins. Nice find!

My oldest is 1920 silver. Hopefully I'll join ya soon lol !

It is so wacky how the finds come down and how some items seem to be so elusive. Breaking 1900 is on my list for sure.

Congrats on the awesome find.

Great find Jim!! John and I didn't find anything but wheaties when we hunted there before the house was built and the land graded some. Now it has given a Peace Dollar, two Barber quarters plus other good silver finds.

When we go to England on the 18th you hopefully can find something way older than 1900!

Awesome...Congrats to ya....:occasion14:

Wow, that looks like it is in pretty good shape detail wise. How about some pix after it was cleaned up front and back. I would love to see close ups. After reading your thread I didn't realize how lucky I have been finding some of the coins I have found in the four months I have been metal detecting. That feeling of pulling something that old out of the dirt and the sight of silver when your first digging it, I'll never be the same. Congrats on your find, I hope you will find more, you have quite a friend there. Shovelnose should be congratulated also for sharing in his great site. I hope both of you guys get more from there.

Great find Jim! Congrats on your 1st pre 1900 silver & hope there's more to come!

Lucky you... I've broken into the 1800s and even the 1700s but not for silver. My oldest silver find is 1908, my oldest gold find is 1911. Thanks for reminding us that pre-1900 silver still exists! :laughing7:

Congrats on breaking a barrier. I'm sure there are lots of old silver near you, it's just luck at getting your coil over it. Barriers are funny too, I was about the same amount of time (5 years) finding my first spanish silver, since then I've got 6 spanish (1723 to 1783) in just over 10 months. You'll have another in your pouch in no time. Now I'm looking to break past 1700.

Good luck out there.

Way to go, I felt your pain. Took me a long long time to to break the silver 1900 barrier. Just found

my first last year, yours is in so much better shape. Congrats.

I thought I found a silver dime once maybe even a merc. Came out shiny as could be. Figured had to be silver and not clad. It was a 64 dime. After researching it. Nope not silver. So still looking to un- join the no silver club and join one of the other spectacular clubs.

1964 dimes ARE silver... they started with clad in 1965.

Congrats to you! The Barber quarter continues to elude me. :BangHead: Barber dimes YES, Barber quarters NO.
SWEET find,
MM

Great pre 1900 silver
