I actually found this, yesterday, and have been 24 hours figuring out how to post, from an android.
A lot of dirt work is being done, to make ready for a highway expansion through town. A lot of trenching for new phone lines, and underground utilities. When the trenches are filled back, I hunt the loose dirt. In the past 6 months, I've found several seated dimes, two Walkers, a handful of What's, and Indian Heads, along with some nice artifacts from the territorial days. Yesterday, after having been out of town, for two weeks, I noticed they'd filled a trench next to a territorial prison. I beat it home, picked up the AT&T Pro, and headed back. I hadn't gone 6 feet, from my starting point, when I got a 42 reading, at 2 inches. I figured it to be trash, but wanted to get it out of the way for future hunts. One scoop of the tool, and this popped out of the ground. When I saw FIVE DOLLARS, I thought I'd found some history. Then I turned it over to see 1996. My first gold coin! The detail is actually better than my phone camera allows.

Wow - Congratulations!!!! :occasion14: :skullflag: :headbang:

Congratulations on your first gold. At 42 it is a reminder to all, dig it all. Great job.

Gold is always good to find.

Congrats to you on your 1996 gold $5 dollar coin - I would speculate that the pendant frame gold as well? Thanks for telling us about the 42 reading - anyway thanks for the pictures and story & I wish you many more great finds while out dirt fishin.

Yessir, the frame appears to be black hills gold as it has hints of red color. Thanks everyone for the comments!

Congratualtions on the Gold coin recovery! :occasion14:

Just a side note: I have dug thin gold wedding bands at 38 on the AT Pro and cheap jewelry between 15 - 30. IMHO if it's a repeatable signal...dig it!

Makes you wonder... who dropped it, how? What? who? all that.

Congratz on Modern gold!

I hope to say this in a very positive way. I notice you are not new here and have been on since last year. Your initial post says in the last 6 months you have found seated, walkers, and a handful of indians. I looked back through your posts and I never saw a thread you started showing your finds. I might have missed something I know.

We don't need to see a new gold coin to be impressed. Seated, and walkers, indians and even wheat cents are welcome as long as trash. Not posting your finds until you have something spectacular is counter productive in my opinion. If people came here only to post banner finds this site would be pretty dead.

Congrats on a gold. I bet you wish it was older but I also know your stoked just to find any gold coin.

I agree with Scuba, don't be shy, we love to see all hunts, and the experience they bring.
Can't say I've seen modern gold bullion posted before.....great find!

Now that is some sweet GOLD treasure !!!! Congrats ! I nominate BANNER !

Congrats on an awesome find and thanks for sharing! I do have to wonder one thing. Are they using the dirt that came from the trenches to fill them back in? If so, why not check the dug piles before they back-fill, then after they back-fill the trenches!!?? Surely, some items are getting buried too deep in the trenches, once they are back-filled!! Is it an issue with safety and they will let you metal detect the trenches and areas around them once they are filled but not when the trenches are open? Just my thoughts!

I live in the black hills and black hills gold has a leaf and berries pattern. From what I can see from your pics the frame doesn't appear to be black hills gold. Awesome find by the way. Most of us only dream of gold coins

Congrats on the gold!! WTG :occasion14:

Thanks for the vote Doc! I'm not sure it's banner worthy, but it's sure fun to share it on here.
