I’ve been collecting gold for awhile now, I even sold some. With all the hoopla going around here as to is this gold or not. I thought I would post this stuff.
I wanted to know if this stuff is gold, and is the white metal silver?

most of it appears to be real gold and silver. gold test kits are pretty cheap for just an Acid only test, but you will have to do filing of the material to test it properly....that is if it is not already marked as gold or .925 silver.

The crew wings and the pilot wings may be partly silver, but they will be marked on the back. The Maltese cross is most likely not silver, it looks like an Army rifle badge (marksman) and will also be marked.

I think your asking this qustion and showing these pictures to prove some kind of point, or just being hunerous, because there is no good anser to your Yes/No question "if this stuff is gold, and is the white metal silver" Answering the all or nothing question I would say definately NO!! the white stuff is not all siver and the yellow stuff is not all gold. The whole lot is probablly some where in between. But I think you already know that some of the gold is solid 10-18kt gold ,some of the gold could be gold filled, or plated, and who knows about the white stuff.

You are right, but a lot of these Air Force guys sport silver. That bolo badge is marked Sterling. If you would like I’ll post a hallmark photo.
Thanks.

Specifically what yellow metal item is not gold ,and what white metal item do you think is not silver? The nickels are what they call war nickels and are rumored to be 40% silver, but I think the true content it more like 35% silver.

Almost all the yellow metal items are marked 10k, 14% or 18k. And most of the white metal jewelry items are marked .925 or Sterling. Pick any item in question and I'll post a shot of the mark or a close up of the metal. All of this yellow metal came out of the ground yellow in color. And most of the times the white metal came out of the white, but it soon stared to turn black after being exposed to the air.

It took lots of elbow grease to get the white metal to look as it does, and no elbow grease to get the yellow metal to luster.

Great looking hoard you've got there!
Did your pic make the banner? It should!

I'd advise you should get the acid test kit.

Several of the inexpensive looking items are most likely gold filled or flash plated over base metal so they are worth more as-is than melt value.

Actually, I think all are worth more than melt, if you can find a buyer... like at a yardsale or swapmeet.
Buy and inexpensive digital scale...

White metal may be platinum if it's a ring. but since it's more expensive than gold, maker would have marked it. I found a titanium cross... it's marked Ti ... and a hallmark.
White gold has high nickel content, maybe with tin also. but would possibly be marked by maker.

If Jeweler Dave is around, he could give a far better presentation on ID and composition than I...
Send him a PM to get his attention!
He seems very knowledgeable and helpful.

Okay, I will tell you that all of the gold in the first photo is real, at least 10k and or better. The silver is real too but I can't vouch for a couple of rings in the silver stuff. When you fool around with enough gold you’ll be able to tell the real, from fake.

These photos feature a few fake or bootleg rings but most are plated and state so in thier marks, some came out of the ground green, but the color they come out of the ground entirely depends what base metal is used.

Can you tell the difference?
