I found this in the woods today seems well made. What is it? And what was it used for? At first I thought a shopping cart but no wheels and the side had latches that open. ๐Ÿค” any comments are appreciated. Looks like it's being used as a fire pit. I work for an automotive supplier and we use those bins to store pallet pins and post in. They aren't light, is there a factory of some sort near where it was possibly "borrowed" from?

Junk ; bet it gave one hell of a signal.

Looks like it would make a great dirt sifter!

Make a good burn bin, too!

It is a US mail cart used in postal service centers. They can lift it with a fork lift or dolley. I had one bolted to a flat bed truck and kept a wolf dog in it. I used to get some looks from motorist. I still have the cart in the back yard and keep scrap metal in it.

It's certainly well made, looks like it came out of industrial setting. :icon_scratch:
I worked in a propane plant years ago, we used to stack the propane torch cylinders in bins like this after they were painted.

I think I remember that the bread trucks used these for bringing loaves of bread to the stores, but maybe not. I would keep it. It would be handy for a rock collection. I have paid good money for steel baskets that are not as well made as yours.

I'd keep it! I can already hear my wife asking "whaddarya gonna do with that?" We have a horrible ground squirrel population. I guess I'd use it for a ground squirrel proof planter! I ordered some ginseng rootlets that should be arriving soon. Think I'd find a way to start them in there.

I remember seeing these. The left side in the first pic can come off by unscrewing the spiral and be made double width by adding another basket. I think it was at a metal stamping plant, the end that folds down was so the operator did not have to reach down so far. They would fold the side and raise as necessary to keep the operator working at a comfortable height.
