Well Senor, I want it to be known that I am an unashamed treasure junkie, who will go anywhere to find/get a fix.

I am in the process of putting a long - and successful - career behind me in order to start-up in this game. What I will not do and refuse to accept, is that you do not become successful at it on most occasions. All the things our crew (us, Crow and LOA), have discussed on this forum, are crucial in my opinion, in being essential to what separates a success from a failure. I make no apology for saying that I want to generate a profit from my endeavours. Not a hobby, it's going to eventually help to pay the bills.

Let's delineate the difference between an amateur and a professional.

Forget the half-baked stories in popular myth, let's track down those that have lain in old journals, travelogues and forgotten tomes, dealing with such things. Then start the research, tracking and putting together of a picture which confirms such things/events happened in the past. Once it's done, then let's look to get into the field and see what is what. That is my opinion anyway.

any one looking for this waterfall on the Rio Santiago may be in for a shock, the river runs through various mountain ranges deep Barrancas, and is at least 200 miles long from the headwaters at Lake Chapala until it reaches the sea north of the banderas valley, not including the fact it has hundreds of run off streams feeding it, it has two main feeds where it splits one the Rio Grande De Santiago that runs from lake Chapala, and the Rio Verde Santiago that heads east through some pretty spectacular country just a few miles east of Guadalajara, it runs through a deep barranca on the north east side of guadalajara, for mile after mile,
and whilst the photo is great, finding that waterfall without OA's exact location :>) would be like looking for the proverbial needle in 10 haystacks, and an extremely small needle at that, depending on the time of year and water levels in the river you may never find it,

that's the point I was making, a few weeks from now I may be in a better position to look, I'll just have to borrow Jose's mule and panniers, and wander upstream once the dry season has been going for a few weeks,
the weather here has just broken a few days and we'll be back to rain,
jose referred to you as kanaka ? I thought that was a kiwi, not an Oz and magnetic island I take it that's not the one off the coast at Townsville,

The Kanacka Don Jose referred to is a big bull of a man called Kanacki. He lives in Melanesia. His present where abouts somewhere at sea on his old schooner, perhaps New Caledonia by now or perhaps port Vila in Vanuatu? I worked with Kanacki in the late 1980s early 1990s. in New Guinea and South America. Kanacki was born there Rabual or port Moresby I cannot remember. but his parents was Scottish. However no one introduced Kanaka to a TV set until he had 4 son and 4 daughters. I am half Australia half Orish as Don Jose would say. I enjoying while I can my supposed retirement on Maggie.

I could imagine anywhere up that river in deep pools you will find placer gold my friend.

Hi Crow thanks for filling me in with the details, I was on maggie in 66 while I was in Oz
(ten pound tourist), I was there 3 years, mostly round Sydney came home when one of my oldies had a stroke, the recession started in 72 and I couldn't get back out there, as they had bought in the points system, worked at the ISA and Whyalla shipyard as well as other jobs,
I've just sold my place and moving to Puebla Pue in about 6 to 8 weeks, from there its any bodies guess,
I have written to OA a few times mostly on other things, there are a few streams running down into the Banderas valley that are like a series of steps over a short distance that would be similar, to the photo Annie posted, a fall every few hundred yards and above the area in the mountains about 12 to 15 miles inland about 10 gold mines which are worked out now, the slurry pan and one mine has a photo on GE,
but the sumps under the falls are still there, and probably pretty rich as well,

Picnic bay lost it importance. Still it fairly laid back as ever. Still a mum and Pop island a heart. And moving to Puebla Pue between Mexico city and Veracruz? Well my friend you moving into area surrounded by treasure legends. Some apparently true?



I have quite a few treasure stories and legends from around that part of Mexico. Perhaps we should start a Mexico treasure thread? So the opportunities are there where you are going.

If only I could get rid of this flu... Perhaps a cup of Don Jose hair rasing roasted coffee, the type you can stand a spoon in will do the trick.

yes Maggie was just a small holiday place then a couple of shops PO and chalets, I think they also grew quite a few pineapples as well on a couple of small farms, nice place, saw my first rock wallaby's there in Nelly bay,

I worked in the crushing plant at the Isa collecting the cuts from the ball and rod crushers in the slurry tanks it flowed through after it was mixed with water, then filtered it and marked up the pans for the lab, we got more in lead bonus then than we got wage, I lived at star gully barracks shared a room with a Canadian guy, he drove one of the huge Euclid's from the open cast up to the top of the dump, I had some fun times there, hehe

yes lots of stuff in mex as you say although Puebla Pue is only 2 hours by road south east of Mex city, and high up so never to hot and never to cold, with low humidity,
although not much in the way of minerals from what I have been told you have to get off the plateau into the lower areas,

yes please post any stories and legends you have from there,

Er last time I had that I was so drunk I couldn't scratch my self. Not good when you have the wobbly boot on. And of course when your entering a casino. They just saw a lamb for the slaughter , just another dumb punter and pored me into a chair on the roulette table. Around and around that wheel goes and where the money goes nobody knows. But wasn't in my pockets. A long night of gambling and debauchery every now and again reminds this old pirate that he is still alive.. regardless if he is determined to go out from this world on his terms.

Geeze Crow mi buddy, Gambling, embraced in the arms of madam booze, dissipation, (drugs)? and , and ?? sigh My missionary work is cut out for me, but as they say, "the more difficult the task, the greater the satisfaction in completing it.

As for el Truckerlater, I have given up hope for him. He has poisoned and blinded too many with his concoction of diluted creek water , old privies, diesel oil, and a bit of night blooming Jasmine.

You will notice that he has learned through bad experiences, to not to put it into the usual 5 gallon square metal containers.

Oh well, it prob isn't any worse than Crows attempts in rermote camps. (_) Salud !
