I found this stuff at a pounded yard that was a Civil War battle site. Pay attention to the middle round ball. Is this a musket ball? The one on the left is and the one to the right is probably a cannister round, but the middle one has a small wire protruding from it and doesn't seem to be lead, although it may be. What do you all think?

I think this other thing is a percussion cap. I found the last picture on the internet. Do you all agree?

One thing the little cap thing ISN'T is a valve cap. You could probably put three of them inside a bicycle tire cap.

The other piece is not a wire seal or a fishing weight. It is absolutely round like a ball bearing, but not steel. I will weigh it and try to get a measurement on it. I feel pretty confident it is a round ball shot of some kind. (But then again, I once found an Arby's foil wrapper and concluded they had fast food in the Civil War ;D )

I don't know how long these were in use and who and all used them but they for sure made musket shot with iron wire in them!I've only found one and it was with these guy's.

Now that is cool! Thanks for posting it. I wouldn't be surprised if wire was used in some of these to make a more deadly round. I will definitely weigh this tonight and post how much it is.

Thanks again for the links and photos. Very cool.

They did have fast food during the CW. Pigs feet, knuckles nd pickled snouts. Hot chicken feet, cracklings, etc. These were in the South. "General Jackson's Southern Fried Chicken" was a store I believe located just outside the "Mule Barn Tavern in Hogwallow, Mississippi. I wasn't there, I just read about it. Monty

I read that dumbells were made by connecting two lead balls and fired in muskets. I posted the pic but cant find the link. The link said they were used in the 17th century English Civil War is all I can recall.

ADDED: Heres an old post on the subject.http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,188892.0.html

The cap looking thing I believe is a primer for a revolver cylinder. In the M & M book, its on page 154 (#6).

A percussion cap for a revolver would not have the wings due to them being in the way when the revolver would spin.

What wings? ??? As far as I know a percussion cap for a revolver nipple is no different than a percussion cap for a rifle other than it may be a different size. The caps I use for my rifle and Colt replica revolver are identical in shape. I use either number 10 or 11 I think, but they both look the same one slightly smaller.
