First post.
I live on the outskirts of Atlanta, GA. There is a large wooded area behind where I live, which has never been built on or developed. It is also beside a creek which we know from geological studies is very old. A spear head was found in the creek which was dated to be approximately 3,000 years old. The area is also near where several battles were fought during the Civil war, and it could have been used as a thoroughfare between camps and Stone Mountain, Georgia (which is nearby).
Over the weekend, I was playing with a friend’s metal detector and decided to walk around in the woods. After just a few minutes, I got a hit. After digging about 7 inches I found this piece of lead. As I said, I know there has never been any construction or development in this area. I have lived here 60 years and our home was one of the first in the development.
Someone I know has suggested this could very well be musket ball slag. You can see it in the image and it is about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick. Is there any way to verify what this is from?? Thank you.
PS Do you consider the stuff you find on the beach with a detector as worthy of posting here?
