Was putting this in junk box(and it probably is junk) however it seems like there are 2 attachments hooks on back one still there and one broken?...any chance this is something more than just miscellaneous I have made the mistake before of throwing out something decent...

I would not be in any hurry to toss that piece out. Oval shape and that type of fastener are consistent with a cartridge box plate (albeit a little small) or maybe a hat badge of some sort.

Is it lead backed? Clean it up a little more, get some measurements, and post a couple more pics. You may have something.

I agree with DCMATT. It does look like it has a distinct round edge. I would work it a little more but gently.

Based on the verdigris, I'd say it is mostly brass. It's pretty toasty already so you don't have to worry too much about doing additional damage.

Start with a vinegar soak for a day or so and see if anything comes loose using a toothbrush. If not, soak it longer. Use something softer than brass to pick off the dirt and concretion - like a toothpick or a tine from a plastic fork.

Was able to get some crust off back and see another attachment piece. Definitely looks like something
