Sorry, there are many debris on picture. If you can return that place and take another one more clare. Good luck.

Curtis, a rock in a hole like that can be natural geologic formation. One the other hand people worked off natural features. So it is a possibility. Here is another one. Given the context of this one, which is not shown, if you can find any useful marks on yours that would confirm it... you are on to something.

I don't know what they mean either lol. I look for patterns. Not enough examples of this kind of formation yet for a pattern.
Since you already know where a mine or two is..backtrack.

Also is that lichen on the face in hole nose? Or a carving. Does that nose end in a point pointing down? Seems to be a possible carved in face figure on the left of the main boulder too ,sort of looking at you.

The possibly carved out area below the rock in hole might be..the guys upper body...very speculative.. Pictures can be very deceiving.

I've only seen a face looking out of a hole on a much bigger scale elsewhere in my travels. That place I suspect was camping and mining but do not know.

I'm no expert though. This just speculation.

Looking at it more..if it IS artificial some others things stand out. Looks like a creature might be holding the ball in its mouth. I've seen that more than once. Some other things caught my eye.
