This is a piece a lead Which I think is a bullet.

I've never found a fired bullet before so I'm not sure. It has one ring around it and it looks like it hit a solid target....you tell me?

I would say mid 1900's. We shot lead very similar to that in the 70's in our black powder rifles. It's real hard to date a piece of lead that's been shot out of a rifled barrel though. It's been in the ground a little while with the patina it has.

It was found in the oldest park, City Park, in New Orleans. Early 1800's. Not sure if they were hunting there in the 1950's.

Bullets and casings are everywhere. I have dug 9mm and 40 cal casings out of tot lots at elementary schools.
 

What is the base width on the three ring bullet.
