Is there THing after Knee Surgery

I had knee surgery on right knee and after six weeks I was able to get around fine due to a fall and I damaged the cartalege too. However I have trouble kneeling and mainly need to bend at the waist to retrieve a coin. Now I mainly just do beaches and the water where I don't need to bend over. For awhile there I figured I'd have to just crawl on the ground an hunt. It was an option that I didn't need to try.

Good Luck,
Sandman

I've had 3 knee surgeries to the right knee. The 1st and 2nd was way back when they used the scalpel to repair cartilage. The 3rd was the scope method used when I accidently hit my knee with a 3 lb. hammer in 94. I metal detect with no problems. I only kneel on the left knee to dig. I see no problem for you after recovery and physical therapy.

Renegade,

I recovered from ligament surgery,Its not as it was but if u really want to Treasure hunt u just do what u gotta do.HH

i had a customer of mine get both knees done,, one after the other.. she's doing great, and back to things she used to enjoy doing,, you'll be back in no time....

I've had 2 scopes done on my left knee and old days open knee and a scope on my right plus a rod from a fracture in my right. It don't slow me down at all.Do your therapy ,keep your leg muscles stromg is very important. The downside is you will develop arthritis in that knee down the road.I have it both knees for a long time and I don't let it slow me down.Good luck.

2 surgeries on the right knee & 1 on the left. These were "pre" orthoscopic days. I'm 25 years past due for a replacement on the right knee, which I'll never be able to have done. Bulging discs, degenerative arthiritis & disc disease, blood clots on the spine......pain just becomes a part of life after awhile.

Renegade...scopes are minor (though I;m sure you don;t feel that way at the moment) I;ve had 9 surgeries....cartilidge removed in both knees and ACL reconstruction both knees....they are arthritic now, but doesn;t slow me down at all.....Do your therapy, and yes your therapist will seem like a sadist, but they do know what they are doing and really do have your best interests at heart... ;D After the swelling goes down and your leg is back up to full strength your knee should feel fantastic and with alot less pain than before...good luck and keep at it!!! :) Quad sets and swimming are the best things you can keep doing to keep your leg strong too.

Thanks for all of your input; this really gives me hope. I have been MDing since mid-70s, and I would hate to lose out on the greatest hobby ever. Thanks for the hope you have given me. You guys are the best....

Yes. Do your therapy everday. 5 knee operations here (Not a brag). Takes me a minute to stand up after digging but I will never stop. ;)

It's definitely possible to recover fully from knee surgery..just think of all of the professional football players that have their knees scoped on a regular basis. Just do your exercises and keep yourself in shape, and you will be back to your old self (or pretty close to it) in no time..I've also heard good things about chondroitin for cartilage repair-it couldn't hurt.

Just got back from the Dr. The left knee isn't able to restraighten after bending down without something to pull myself up with. The right knee is a bit better. The Dr. recommended a complete knee replacement for the left and probably the same for the right down the road. He gave me a shot...either cortizone or steroids. Feels better now though. Not looking forward to this.. :(

Just get one of those little pull carts with either a seat on it, or like mine which is about an 18"x18"x18" box on two wheels and a pull handle; the lid provides a seat. Stores MD items and a seat for digging.

Wish I had a pic; they are available most anywhere ;)

yeah, i tore a tendon in my knee and used a little three legged tringle fold up stool to sit on and could keep my injured leg out straight while digging.
my tear was misdiagnosed as just a sprain at first till 4 mo. later and still hurting i took the MRI films to another DR. looking for relief and he points out this tear and tells me it,s too late for surgery and will probably not get much better.
i,ve had the steroid injections and anti-inflammatories with temporary relief that never lasted.
what i finally found that helps the most because it actually helps your injury heal is a product called G.D.U. from daniel chapter one .com products. it also helped the tendonitis in my elbows i suffered with for years.
hang in there,
bruizr

Wish I had a pic; they are available most anywhere ;)

Had my knees scoped yesterday, in fact, one was minus much of the cartalege. Have any of you gone through this and been able to get back into detecting? I already miss it.

Had my left knee a.scoped (and an arthritis scrape) on 9/11/07 where a nickle size area of mashed meniscus was removed and I am back to 100%. Even better, it doesn't chronically hurt like it did! I would say it was well worth doing (especially as my insurance company finally came through). You won't do much kneeling for the first six weeks afterwards, though.

I had both knees scoped for the second time on 11/8/07. Wasback to work the next week, so it won't keep you down long.

There is a new procedure that is just now acing. It's called "cold lazer treatment".

Although it is still in it's infant stages, it is proving help with pain from arthritis, tissue damage, and tissue loss, etc. In some cases, the pain is completely removed..

There is no heat involved, and patients do not feel anything from the treatments.

Many Doctors do not even know about it yet.

Check it out. It's very, very new in the world of medicine.

Just had knee replacement in Oct., have to have the other in March. Rehab was terrible, but know what to expect this time. Hope to be out by June or July. Whatever you do, do that therapy please.
