is there such a thing as metal detector rage

please be more specific

Ok I will try for example two guys one called Bill the other Bob set out at around 4.50am to do a spot of beach hunting Bob is using a cheapo special whislt Bill has a top of the range model costing big bucks. Bob hits a find at around 2.5inchs its a soild gold rolex the real deal mean while bill (I have the best dectector ever) finds a ring pull. Bob takes the mick and they both construct a cage. And begin to have a WCW style match.

Or any thing like that thanks

If two people are swinging right next to each other and digging that close to each other to begin with and it's not like a competetion hunt or something like that, then that's just plain ill manners to begin with, and at least one of them is probably an asshole.

Without more details of what you are talking about though it's hard to say anything definitive.

Two people fighting over a find, ... i have seen it happen, though one has been totally in the wrong, ie they passed it over, another found it shortly afterwards dug, recovered, then first said, hey, im hunting here, that's mine.... again, ill manners.

In that case, yes I guess you could say there is 'detector rage'... but what it boils down to is, bad manners and an asshole.

never mind ::)
LMAO!

lmao....that's when the third guy should jump in while the other two are occupied and scoop up all the goodies and teach them both a lesson on manners and ethics.

I have heard of several instances where someone has arrived to detect and someone claims it is there spot! never has happened to me but if you think you have a right or claim to a certain location and it is not private property you are not thinking right! :D That is putting it as mildly as I can... But I would think this would be more of the detecting rage you may run into! Or the goof who has everyone believing his stories...but a few know the story does not add up. ;)

That scenario would never happen so the question is irrelevant. This post should be deleted.

I havent heard of it in the field ,but I think there has been a time or two here at Tnet ::) ,when someone deserves a clunck on the head with a metal detector ..........

IMHO one word was sufficient

After reading though the replies I've noticed that some have said the example I gave was unrealistic so I thought I would present another. So here goes

Bill and Bob drive miles to the woods to spend the day detecting after spending several unproductive hours Bob finds a cache of gold claims a 100% percent for himself Bill objects he did contribute towards Gas. They both don Ninja outfits and proceed to fight Matrix style Bill gets struck by lighting and gets transported back to 1970 with his metal detector claims he designed it and makes a fortune than gos to the woods and finds the cache hows that

My digging partner gets that sometimes. I have dug silver and his head got so red it looked like a zit ready to pop. Then all I have to tell him is that he found a civil war buckle on my site on our first hunt in 15 minutes then the zit goes away.

I'v had a Newbie once who must have thought
I knew the spots to swing & would follow right along side me like
we were connected at the hip.

To be fair he was a Newbie in all sense of the word
and may have been trying to Mimic what I was doing
to Learn.
Or wanting to Swing over the targets before I dug
to see if it was working correctly.

But rather then Get mad & tell him about it,
I decided it was a good time for a Cigarette Break
& joined some of the other Detectorists for a Bull session
till he wondered away from the area I was searching.

As far as someone Finding a Better find then me
or having a better day .....

What Goes around Comes around, so
I know my days Coming & am happy for them having theirs.

probably a good example an similar to Jeff's is when you arrive everyone goes their separate way until one person starts finding stuff in their area like vultures they all descend on the same tiny spot. And all the Md's go arye because of frequency interference, because they are too close to each other. Then watch the action.
Heck I've seen it happen on competition hunts. Whats next spikes on md's like the chariot race in ben hur

Jeff, that is the one the funniest things you have done yet. It is not even 9:00 in the morning here and now I am craving steak you dog. Is the gold coin under the heffer or the bbq???

Bill, that's funny but man you hit the nail on the head. During competition hunts folks get stupidly aggressive towards each other. If it wasn't so pathetic it'd be like a poorly thought out sit com. Someone finds something and everyone else is there standing on his toes trying for their share. I know a few folks who are like that, they will literally try to push you out of the way so they can detect right where you were digging. which is why I will keep a handfull of bb's in my bag when they are around, they start getting assholy I drop bb's here and there, it keeps em busy and out of my hair. :o Turnaround is fair play eh?
