I think you are forgetting that the harder you work for your first speck of placer the more valuable it is.

If you just want gold it's cheaper to buy it. If you want the experience you have to earn it. The more experience you have the less expensive the gold becomes.

It's like fishing. Nobody in their right mind except a trusted friend is going to hand you their fishing rod, point to the hotspot, and say "cast there!".
