Is Silver actually more valuable to humans than Gold?

Not so much an investment, but insurance. Not for SHTF, somewhat useless. A vehicle to carry wealth through bad times. Very few people hold PM’s so I really doubt they will be of much use for barter. Who is going to want shiny metals when their stomach is talking? Food and water will be priority number one. Perhaps I would trade a loaf of bread for a 6-pack of Bic lighters but I won’t have much use for a couple silver dimes.

Maybe you wouldn't, neighborhood kingpins with large stockpiles just might, and/or those with excess supplies looking to turn a large profit, thinking the turmoil will pass soon.
I agree that bullets might be the most precious commodity of all in such a scenario, no one knows how it would play out, but you had better be ready and willing to defend your stash - It would depend on how bad and widespread it is. If its like the Walking Dead then sure, you might just walk by a bag of gold, deeming it not worth the effort to carry.

Neighborhood kingpins? If that’s the case, you will have nothing to your name. They will own it all, I’ve watched enough of the Walking Dead to understand how that works. /s :tongue3:

Certainly it's more useful/important from an industrial standpoint. Only about 12% of the world's gold output currently goes to industrial applications, versus more than half the world's silver output. That's even allowing for the fact that one of its major uses has dropped dramatically. The photographic industry (with Kodak at the top of the league table) used to be the world's largest user of silver in the days before digital imaging began displacing conventional film.

I'd like to tweek your comment a little. Polaroid was number one or two not Kodak. A lot of people never knew that was the reason for the Instamatics down fall. The volume of silver became too expensive for the retail market. A close friend was a rep. for Polaroid, and brought home all kinds of cool stuff. He handed me a tiny ball on a kleenex. Told me that's five photos worth. Kind of made me want to burn all the families photos.

Well, maybe I/you could be a kingpin ,,, And it all starts with a stash of silver and some bullets !
I think precious metals will have a place in any likely short term barter situation, and that silver will be more useful/practical than gold. if it gets so bad that there are only pockets of humans battling each other for months on end for supremacy, then not so much so.

Yes, that's exactly what anyone with an ounce of sense would do in a hypothetical SHTF scenario, as would I. Speaking generally, I've always considered the "hurr durr u kant eat silber" counterpoint to be exceptionally superficial if not pitifully low-IQ as well. If you're the big boy on the block/ranch with years of supplies and the firepower to defend it you'll not only get through just fine, but find yourself quite wealthy when that unlikely global SHTF situation passes. At this point all of you stackers should already have a garage or barn full of supplies and be able to trade your critically valuable surplus antibiotics and meds, nonperishables, bricks of ammo, propane canisters and whatever else for the last remaining precious metal or useful wealth of those less well prepared, and at disgustingly lucrative margins too! Wedding rings melt down pretty well ya know... Why is it that everyone who tries to strawman about the few exigent emergency situations where PMs aren't immediately useful ignores the fact that stackers also tend to be preppers too and have thought through everything like that 100 times over and prepared accordingly? Not trying to argue but why even engage with such foolish strawmanned "arguments"? Anyone who poses them unironically (I assume it's all in good fun here) simply doesn't understand and isn't worth the time; we'll watch them grovel for scraps as the dragonstack grows ever higher. Hopefully everything holds up and everyone manages to protect themselves and their loved ones but I honestly doubt it. Darwinian selection is a b*tch; please make sure you don't win that ignominious award sometime this decade.

You could have said all that gibberish in one sentence.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to get personal or anything like that friend, I had your jests in mind and assumed that you were just having fun/being ironic. Honestly you shouldn't care about anyone's feelings especially if you are certain you're correct. I'd certainly appreciate some stock-tips tho; still got dry powder lol. Stay safe and pile up your resources so we all can conquer the next decade! KIMG0091~2.JPG

Waxing poetic, I like it !

I’m not sure I agree with the sentiment that silver has more industrial application than gold... look at the semiconductor industry. More silver may be used more not because it’s more useful, but because it’s more economical. The cost-benefit doesn’t pan out (see what I did there) haha.

i approve this message.
