Is Odyssey in trouble??

The valuation that Spain put on the coins ($40 for a 8R and $1,600 for an doubloon) read more like the intrinsic values for those PMs in 2011 than in today's numismatic market.
Don......

Hey, Odyssey never asked Spain to claim.
How the profit through sales may have occurred can now only be speculation but a cracked coin could fetch an unknown price if marketed effectively.
Spain decreasing the value a good way to complain. Also make peons think poor Spain got little for her coffers.
Think they'll swear off claiming goods that others recover? Me neither.

What happened to the fabulous treasure of HMS Sussex?

It is now worth $3 Billion?!?!?!

Where is the report that the article references?

It's a 2009 article updated in Jan of this year. I'm not certain what the updated portion is. Very old news.

The update is the report by Kingsley on the recently documented damage to the site.

Other interesting news out of the UK...

An "unsuccessful bidder" on the Gairsoppa recovery has won the $25 million+ out of court settlement against the UK Government.
Anyone know who this bidder is?

EDIT: The bidder that settled for the $25M+ was David Mearns
