i have yet to coin roll hunt any type of silver coin, i just do pennies for copper and wheat's, but is it really worth driving to bank after bank just to get a silver coin or two, i realize some boxes payoff big but none the less i cant see that happening every time, i guess if you live in a big city or town you could probably hit quite a few banks with pretty low mileage. i have a lot of fun when i do coin hunt but i just wanted some feed back before i did decide to jump into silver coin roll hunting.

Its not just about the money!! Its the hunt.Go for it.

Last week was a bad week for me, all that driving I did getting 12 boxes that netted me 1 40% form the boxes and 2 90%'s from a tellers tray, spent way more in gas than I made in silver, worth it? Hell yes! For me it is about the hunt too, and it is inevedable that you're going to hit a paydirt sometime and get ahead of the game, for me this is retirement money so what I collect now and save will far exceed in value in the future than what I spent to get it. It can be fun but don't expect to get rich from CRH! If you don't have a lot of competition in your area it is of course better.

If the bank is on your way anyway...... What's the big deal? Most people have a long commute to work/school and there are various banks in da vincinity. The question you should be asking, is it really worth the time copper penny hunting. And if you dont have a long commute to work/school, be happy, and use the gas money you saved, to travel to the various banks.Win-Win

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you're in CRH'ing for the money, you'd be better off working at McDonald's and buying silver with the money you make - you'll see more silver per hour for the time you put in. No, it's not worth the gas, in terms of profit. In terms of enjoyment as a hobby, well, that's up to you...

As mentioned, it really is about the Hunt...But I usally try and hit banks on the way home from work, or hit them on my lunch breaks. When WF had the coin machines, i would get coins at lunch, and them dump them on my home. Funny thou, because I think I find more on the coinstars.

It's not worth it, especially in Michigan. Garoulady has been CRHing the whole state and it is completely dry of silver. Don't waste your time or gas!

Stick with pennies. I have driven thousands of miles and gotten two lousy silver dimes. I switch back to pennies last week

You really cannot trust anyone's opinion on what YOU should do and what is worth it to YOU, YOU must go out and experiment yourself, see if its worth it or not...You're going to get a lot of mixed opinions in which are biased ofcourse due to silver being involved. Go out and have fun and as always this is just my two cents!

Save gas - walk!

I work dowtown in a city and sometimes walk around when the weather is nice and hit some branches. The branches are not far apart and I get some exercise in the bargain. Probably less likely that I'll find a collection dump or something in an area that doesn't have much residential property, but I have found silver nonetheless in downtown teller trays, CWRs, etc.

Not everyone lives or works in a city, but even in a smaller town you could park and walk around.

If you are in coin roll hunting for the money you could make, than it isn't worth it. You would need to do a massive amount of coins each week to possibly have it pay off. I think everyone here on tnet does this as a hobby & as a hobby it is the thrill of the hunt & what each box may hold that makes it worthwhile. Ultimately you will have to make the decision as to what you will do. I say as a hobbyist give it a try. After all you won't find out if it is worth it unless you try.

The key is to set up a regular weekly schedule near you and stick to it. I personally have 4 boxes on one week and 8 on the next because 2 of my suppliers are every other week orders. Most of my boxes are in my town of Orem, but 2 of them weekly are about 6 miles north in Pleasant Grove.

If your doing this for the money, you are not going to like this hobby in the long run. I spend more on bagles coffe and donuts for the tellers each week then i usually find in AG. but its the fun of the hunt that counts. I have been doing well with the recent storm. But I get more excited finding a silver coin, then takeing down a tree for good money.

Its your money, so you decide. In my area - it's not worth it at all. The amount of silver that I find in comparison to my time waiting for tellers to get coin or change bags on the coin counters, gas money, etc. But if you look at it as a hobby, its woth it, to me anyways. Every hobby costs money. People who golf arent making cost to enjoyment ratio analysis. For most fishermen and hunters it would be far more cost effective to buy the meat at the store. But for me its all about the hunt!

good to hear all these comments, i usually go metal detecting for the silver when the weather is decent, i was just looking to pick up another hobby because the winters are long up here in the u.p of Michigan. i think ill stick to the pennies since i live in a much less populated area and maybe ill grab a box of dimes here and there for the fun of it. i know the thrill of finding silver coin and good luck to everyone on their coin hunts. thanks for all your input. :)
