Everyone (including me) is looking for that super comfortable detector that can detect a dime at 30 inches in highly mineralized soil. Oh my! can you imagine what you could do with that puppy on the beach!

We all know a detector needs a decent depth.

BUT I sometimes wonder, with all the emphasis on depth these days, are we missing something?

Please give us you point-of-view in regard to depth and general metal detector features.

I'll risk it. I once met a fellow who was absolutely supreme at sorting the junk from the goodies with his detector.

I actually walked with him once and saw him dig 2 or 3 nice old coins right where I had hunted many times. I asked him how he did it and he said he knew how to detect objects setting next to iron and general trash.

Maybe the sum of all this is as follows:

1. depth isn't as important as discrimination capabilities when hunting high trash areas with shallow to medium depth targets.

2. In lower trash areas where the targets are deep, depth is the major issue.

What do you say?
