My first thought too was that it looks like wood.

What kind of signal do you get, VDI number, tone ? Is the signal consistant ?

Wood is not metal !! Iron should be red... I think its coal/hot rock.

I think maybe it's just a bad pic, but it's definitely not wood. I will try and get a better picture thanks!
