✅ SOLVED Iron Crotal Bell? Scale Weight? No Idea.

Dug up a weird iron relic the other day. It appears to be crotal bell size, but it's iron and flat on the bottom. Could it be some sort of scale weight? It weighs around one ounce.

I found it at a spot that's been giving up a lot of 1700's flat buttons, so it could be a really old relic. Any guesses on this one would be appreciated.

Here's a few pics, but it's really toasted. I soaked it in vinegar for two days, but didn't make much progress removing the rust.

reminds me of the old door bells you spun and there were two of those that spun inside and hit the inside of the ringer that was shaped like an old fire alarm bell but smaller.

DCMatt, thank you! It did have a short wire piece on the end, but it crumbled when I tried to clean it.

Hey guys. I found the same piece two years ago. Always thought that that was weight for the scale. It also had piece of iron wire attached. Now I know why. Clapper!!! Bravo DCMatt!:icon_thumright:
