Iron coin or token?

I found this iron coin or token around a civil war battle field. I can't get any writing off it and I can't tell if it's a coin or token. If you know what it is leave me a comment.

don't think its a coin... but a token...maybe. or perhaps an electrical punch-out...I've found a few, but they were in lawns, next to fuse box.

its trashed right? Members here on tnet will suggest electrolysis.. but I don't have that kind of patience... my favorite tool lately is a steel brush. it works wonders.
