🥇 Banner finds

It was great to get out digging again with Iron Patch yesterday. We have detecting together for over a dozen years together and have discovered many colonial sites in our area. Over the past couple of years I have been dedicating a lot of my time to personal and professional endeavours, but now I can give some spare time back to relic hunting, and getting back on the land making some more awesome discoveries as part of Team Iron Bros.!
There have been some really great sites that we just can't seem to stay away from and have go back time and time again; although it's always better after a ploughing or two and we didn't have many opportunities to get back to some these sites in a couple of seasons, we were due to hit some of our favourites this time.
We were fortunate to have great conditions at a couple of our sites and put a few goodies in the pouch.
Literally, my first good signal was a very early militia button. Ironic (and also from some other recent posts by IP,Patriot, andHunthicks, and a few others) that we discussed finding one of these buttons just moments before, and then there it was!
I also found a couple of other nice old military buttons as well, an RSLA button which is one we find at more than a couple of our sites, and a new one for me. I don't know this one and hopefully we can nail it down in an id. It's a flat one piece construction, about 21-22mm, has a crown atop a thistle in a wreath and AF below, I'm guessing a Scottish militia unit brought over by a new settler around 1800-1820. It was once silvered and came out in as is condition, funny thing was I didn't even realize I found it til I got home and went through my finds. I also found a handfull of other plain buttons from the era and few nitnoids as well. One find ,I believe, is part of a sword hand guard, but could just as easily be a piece of a furniture drawer pull or escution.
I did manage a few coins, but condition was fair at best. A George ll farthing and half pence, a George lll Hibernia half penny, a Tiffin toke ( Kirks favourite!) and an ole crunchie copper for the jar!
All in all it was a great day and I think we'll get a few more chances to get a few more posts up this fall
and now for the pics

Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire Fencibles? Argyllshire Fencibles?

:icon_scratch:

I'm bumping this in hopes of our UK friends seeing it and piping in on that Scottish button. :) :read2:

You guys had a pretty sweet day out there, lots of nice finds! I had a following like IP in that pic at one of our sites recently, only it was about 10 cows haha, That thought my shovel and rain jacket tasted great. Hopefully I'll at least find ONE comparable find Sunday when I go scouting in an old area.

Also, a Patriot and Hunthicks moment, although we talked to the farmer, he didn't come down to see us in the field the FARM did ,lol
here's IP with one of the locals

no coffee, just creme!

He must've left his tights at home. :laughing7:

I think he would have messed the tights when he saw what I was finding anyways' lol

I had my sassy pants on and did ok too

I don't have the answer but may have a good starting point. I have another guy to check in with.

"The AF button could be one of either Argyll fencibles or Clan Alpine fencibles they are the only two I can find documented in Scottish history."

I've just had this from a good contact: (make any sense?)

'Aberdeen, Angus or Argyll Fencibles as all three had fencilble units, sadly though as the find location is no help as to which one it is it will remain unknown... for now...'

Thank you Cru, I had an idea that those towns would no doubt be possibilities , not even sure if the back mark would have helped either
It's going into my collection and if another or similar ever show up I'll have something to compare to
The site it came from has given up such a variety that anything is possible

This just goes to prove there are still buttons we have no idea on. When I recorded mine, I had (I think) 5 unknown types.

I still got a couple that I have yet to put a definitive id on , I'll have to save those for a rainy day project
hope today's rainy day didn't keep you from getting out, and you didn't get blown away

I cycle to work & the wind & rain was nothing to the '87 gales. A fuss over nothing.
