A sales staff that actually knows what they are talking about. I keep seeing all of my friends call up Kellyco wanting one machine and a salesperson steers them into the direction of a machine that is absolutely useless for the kind of hunting that they want to do. These new people are too trusting and let some beach hunter from Florida tell them what machine will be good for finding silver coins in the midwest. And then they get discouraged when we walk into a public park and I find 5-10 silver in a day and they get $2.48 in clad and their machines can't even hear silver coin signals when I put their coil right on top of them.

true in-the-field experience is hard to beat. A long long time ago I wanted to upgrade my detector and I called the florida folks. I had a particular model in mind and was talked into a different brand and model range. After working with the detector I found it was NOT what it was hyped up to be. After that experience I decided to become a local dealer for Whites and I have had pretty good relationships with my customers and sold a lot of detectors over the years and I still continue to sell consistently year after year. People want to see what they are buying in person before they put their money down. I had one guy contact me , wanting me to buy a XLT from him that he had bought mail order and he wanted full price that he had paid. Um, I don't think so....

"Some Beach Hunter From Florida" :violent1:

Being a beach hunter from Florida I find this to be a little derogatory don't you think, I bet both my Sovereign GT and Excal can find silver in your parks there..........

Hi Bazinga!
Thanks for the feedback! I think the Sales staff tries to figure out what's best based on what the customer tells them...but perhaps there are ways to delve even further into the WHY when a customer wants one! Do you have any good info you could send me on this? Sounds like you have a lot of info! I'd love to pick your brain!

Welcome jamie, i think that the customer service is very politeand understanding when people call in, i am new at this and called them a few times with questions. each time i takled t a differant sales person and each time they pointed me in a differant direction with what they enjoyed or thought i could use. i havent bought one yet, i am in process of getting an order this weekend, i have been doing alot a research and gotten alot of great info from everyone on here. ooops didnt plan on writing that much, just wanted to say welcome. !!!! :icon_thumright:

All I can say is...WOW!!! :-* My first question too KellyCOchick would be................what is your number???....sorry could not help myself...my bad!!!

I ordered the AT Pro, and I'm waiting ???........They're on backorder, and I'm hoping it was mailed today :headbang:....the snow is melting mighty quick up here! :headbang: Maybe you could :help: out and call/stop by the guys at Garrett and get them revvvvved up for me so they work a little faster!

You really do need to do your homework when you buy mail order or via the net. I bought from Kellyco a couple times and the only error was the wrong free extras with my AT Pro. One phone call and they sent me the stuff I wanted, didn't even want the other stuff back. Now I just have to find a use for the V4 short sword they call a pinpointer. No complaints about Kellco from me.

I'll stick to my local dealers. When it comes to detecting, I'll take TRUE field experience over a pretty face any day. Phone sales is phone sales is phone sales...

Upselling is the name of the game. Hard to get a good recommendation on a relic machine (without reading cue cards) from a different part of the country (much different soil conditions) than the one the customer actually lives in. I've been in sales a long time and "training classes" can't hold a candle to actual user experience.

Tony was the best guy they had - tried talking to a couple of different people there, but it was not the same. Tony never rushed the conversation nor did he push anything on me that I didn't need.

ozbach... I'm sorry buddy, I'm gonna have to fight ya for her... and I'm gonna have to win. :whip2: :angel12:

Seriously though, Jamie, the KellyCo website could use a little fine tuning. But I like that they offer refurbished and discounted detectors. Would be nice if there was a larger selection of those. Some of us can't afford to plonk down a lot of money on something like that.

But I can afford to buy you a cup of coffee if you're ever in Washington... :coffee2: :love5:

It's really tough to offer any good ideas when the company is based in an area with primarily one kind of detecting going on. Their salesman just don't have the experience of a gold hunter in Colorado, a relic hunter in Virginia, a coin shooter in the midwest, etc.

The last time I was down there I stopped in the showroom and the salesman was really trying to push me towards the V3. It was certainly amusing to hear the sales pitch. Especially after having spent an extensive amount of time hunting side by side one.

Having an entire website at your disposal with many people willing to help, why would you count on the person selling you the detector to provide you with what you need? I never seek the advice from people who try to sell me stuff, because they're in it to make the most money.

Do your research, figure out what's a good price, then go shopping.

It is like going to a car dealership and saying "sell me something"..... If your smart you will have already done your research before you go to the dealership...
