"Greenstone" type tool, I have an idea on the age, like 12k+, found in a trench that was dug for a road closure on a forest fire suppression area in pacific northwest. What was it used for?

I've found other point fragments there and it is near a flat bench near the canyon edge of major river system. Likely an old campsite/ summering area. Has a bit of "decoration" with the white ring shape on it. Fits in hand nice, has some "pounding tool" type divots on one end.

Here's the ends, and one more angle.

Interesting item.

It looks to me like it's not a preform of any tool but could have been an abrader used in the manufacture of other hardstone tools such as celts and/or axes. Used to shape the stone by pecking and grinding the edges.

It is a tool for smoothing and uniforming stones and stone rooms. It is an ancient method. They chose hard stones like granite. In the Egyptian pyramids, the stones were smoothed and polished in the same way. The room and tomb of the kings were also built in the same way. In all ancient civilizations, this method of construction was common

The more I look and find, the larger my "don't know what it was used for" box gets!
What fun it would be to see what these special tools were made for...Special tools are what keeps my wheels turning!

Congrats!

Polish stone. They made gorgets out of the greenstone because it is relatively easy to form and a pretty color. But they would Polish/smooth pottery/ hides and other objects. Nice find

When you say “greenstone”, are you talking about a green colored rock or do you mean Catoctin greenstone from VA? Catoctin greenstone is harder than the hubs of hell and is not easy to work.

I'm not sure of the actual name for the rock but it is referred to as greenstone. They were used in gorgets alot but it tarnished to a nice green patina

It's just a very hard greenish rock that I refer to as greenstone, kinda bedrock like. Not sure of the makeup, probably olive rich basalt.

"olivine rich"
