WOW - Is that period?! If so it does belong in a Museum.

That's cool and I agree, museum material after finding out the history of it maybe.

Hey tcscivic,

Welcome to TNet & thanks for showing us your find. I believe this is a post war marker that may have been placed by the UDC. UCV, or SCV. The design is based on the Southern Cross of Honor.

Yep the date says 1861 and 1865.

Thanks. From what I have read this used to be a grave marker. The river must have washed it from it's original grave.

I don't think it could wash it very far, considering it's weight. Probably dumped.

At some graveyards they put these next to tombstone. They are different from the time the served or the branch. My family has some on their graves. It is definitely a cool find but you should look around for nearby graveyards. It would be even a better story if you return it to the owner.

I believe someone probably dumped it. The United Daughters of the Confederacy had placed these on all the CSA grave sites in my area...including my husband's GG grandfather. If you contact them (UDC UCV or SCV, they may be able to find out which grave it came from.

Heck, even better then my idea.

Very cool find and your first - WOW- welcome to TNet from Oklahoma. HH yelnif

Could the grave sight actually be in the area ? My point is maybe a family member took the marker and placed it near the area they lost their loved one... just a thought ... Woodstock
