Hi all, a buddy and I was able to get out for a while today in the wind and cold. Wanted to get out one last time before deer season shuts us down for a couple of weeks.

We managed to find a few buttons, some tomback, and he found a brittish copper of some sort. It was too worn to make a positive I'd.

I found this item, it appears to be pewter, and also appears to be molded after a 8 reale. I apologize for the terrible pics, but the condition of the item is very rough. I can see a o over the m and some other letters along with what appears to be pillars and globes on the one side maybe? At first I thought it was a replica button but with the details on both sides don't leave room any where for a shank to have been attached.

Any ideas, or has anyone seen one before?

I found a pic of a reale with similar details.

Maybe a bale seal

A pewter real might have looked pretty good before it went into the soil. Then it did what pewter normally does. You'd probably better stabilize it like we do with pewter buttons.

What is the process for stabilizing pewter? I definitely would like to do this. Thank you.

How would you go about cleaning the remaining dirt of of the pewter without further damaging the pewter? Or would you use the white glue and water on the item as is?

A toothbrush and some soap will work, just don't brush too aggressively.
