Went to try and locate an old ghost mining town yesterday. The bad news was that it was easily accessible and only a half hour away from Las Vegas. I didn't think there would be much left to be found, but had to give it a go anyways.
Lots of stone buildings still partially standing but surprisingly very little trash on the ground.
I did get some good sounding signals to dig, but all were just junk.

The best find of the day was an almost complete Battersea assayer's crucible. I see these fairly frequently but they're usually in pieces.
The cartridges are .32 S&W, .38 S&W and .38 rimfire.

A deteriorated adobe brick wall. If you look close you can see the brick outlines.

Even though the finds were slim, it was a fun day kicking around in the dez!

Great looking place. How do you go digging up targets in cactus country. Are there many spikes/needles in the ground from them.

GREAT pictures :)P Thanks for posting for us

Oddly enough, I've never even seen a cactus needle on the ground. :icon_scratch:

I always wear snake-bite chaps when I'm out there, because of the cacti, not the snakes.

Cool site. Great pictures. Back in my younger days I liked to visit the old ghost in the northeastern Oregon mining fields. Had a lot of fun, made a lot of great finds and got a lot of pictures and a bunch of family adventures! I sure miss the old day now that my body doesn't want to do that anymore! But I have a lot of great memories!

Have you ever hunted Jerome, AZ? Heard it was a deserted old town. I didn't know if it was allowed there or not. I remember being out west and seeing it off in distance on the mountain

I recall reading in one of those old cir.1980s Lost Treasure magazines about a gold bar was detected that was coated in black tar was found in an old Mojave desert ghost town. I really like exploring dry desert terrains because you can see more laying around on the ground.

Jerome is not even close to being deserted. It's quite the tourist stop these days. Historical site, so, I doubt you would be able to detect public places. Naturally, you'd have to get permission for private property.
