I found this yesterday at a site where I have found relics from the 1700s and early 1800s (plenty of square nails and ceramic shards); almost no modern trash. It is made of thick brass. Not a utensil handle-too thick and heavy. The rounded end has a notch in it, which is kind of puzzling-any ideas? Thanks

Could this possibly be part of a door knocker, or drawer handle? The back side is pretty scratched up (with patina over the scratch marks), like it repeatedly came into contact with another metal object.
