Bison Insitus

Bison were the staple for the Plains cultures and during the many years of our river hunting for artifacts we have found a substantial number of bison skulls. This is a collage of some of the specimens we have found. View attachment 2098155
Very interesting to see all of the skulls. We only have plant fossils here and not many of them in this part of Georgia. Thanks for taking the time to post with us

I was shown a buffalo jump once on the Blackfeet reservation days.... now THAT was the way to hunt!

I may have posted this in the past. It's been over 20 years ago. A farm I had permission to hunt had just had a small creek cleaned out dumping dug soil up on the bank by the bridge.. they then leveled it out and farmed that small piece of bottom land for the first time, maybe ever. The soybeans were just starting to come up, and I decided to take a look before the beans got too big, and this is what I found. I didn't have a camera with me so I drove the 5 minutes to our place, picked up my wife and a camera, then returned. It took all of maybe 20 minutes. All the time I worried that someone else would drive by, see a "rock" from the road and stop to see what it was. I gave my wife the honor of excavating it.

I’ve never seen or found one as nice as yours

I'm pretty sure it came out of the creek bottom when they cleaned it, and had never seen a farm implement until the bean planter left a couple small marks on it.

Heck of a nice 3/4 groove there bud!!!! Great pics as well!!

Nice insitu of a very nice axe.
Your effort to get your camera paid off, you now have that picture from 20 years ago and can enjoy seeing that find over and over ...great memories.
That is why I started taking insitus many years ago so I could look back and recall those exciting discoveries and actually see them as they were found.

Not the coolest points but fresh from the weekend. The more exciting part is one came from a spot that I thought was about done, small hilltop only a handful of flakes in the last several years, the scraper from a new area, I’ll have to investigate closer.

I’m enjoying all the postings this week. This is a fun hobby with many mysteries. I retrieved some old pictures. Hope you enjoy these as much as I did finding them back in April of 2021.

This one when wet is grey with black stripes in it. Dried out it turned black. Also from 2021
Has a nice spokeshave on the side of the little knife
