It's a wrought iron lever lock, aka: smokehouse lock .. Civil War era roughly.

I agree with creskol. I have one exactly like it that has been cleaned up nicely. It was from a definite camp site. So I guess it could be a decade or so earlier.

I agree 1865 era Mallory Wheeler & Co. maybe. I have some pics in my book that kinda match.
