Today was one of those special UPS truck days we all adore.

The Infinium from Detector Depot (thanks Terry!) arrived today in great shape.

I've got a bit of a virus and we just got about a foot of snow so it will be a while till I get it outside.

The detector as a whole looks very good. I don't care for the headphones though. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them and change for the better?

Everybody should watch that Infinium DVD. I understand they'll send it free to anyone.

Thanks for enjoying this moment with me.

Thanks Burdie. That's a very tempting offer ;D

I did get outside for about 5 minutes and discovered my driveway is loaded with treasure ;D

The ground is harder than stainless steel so it will be a while yet.

I also discovered something in the manual that I had already assumed. I need to get the mono coil for Michigan. We have low mineral soil here so concentric is the name of the game (and mono pinpoints a whole lot better too). Personally I don't care at all for the DD's.

I did some air tests and like I was told it didn't do well (maybe 12 inches on a quarter). PI's get their depth in ground.

It's a heavy sucker but that's okay for what I'll use it for.

Cool...thanks.

Right now I'm trying to locate a deal on a mono coil. Michigan beaches all have mild soil. Garrett says go with the mono.

There are a few places I'll use the DD though.

Thats the same here in Northern Ohio along Lake Erie i will have to use a Mono coil....==Jim==

You got the standard land phones. You also might want to consider ordering the water proof set too. Some of my finds come from the water that is so deep that I kind of stand on my toes. If a wave comes along, it's not going to damage the headset.

Man....that is so cool. I am really looking forward to seeing your finds. Below are a couple of pics from last year just days after I too got mine. The heck with waiting until summer, I went out and got my first 2007 coin with mine. I was practicing and digging all targets, just to get a hang of the tones and what actually gives a high-low or low-high sound of common objects.

My first coin (dime) found detecting last year using my new Infinium. ;D

My second hunt. I took along my ACE 250, and used both detectors to try and ID a target before I dug it up.

I categorized my finds from one of my hunts. I went through all this so as to shorten my learning curve for the hunts in or near water.

Congrats Badger on the new toy, it makes me want one too. Here in Bama I'm hampered by iron and red clay, this may be just the ticket. I may be ordering one in the near future.

Hi Tim.

If you saw that Infinium DVD you'd be ordering one today.

Mineral soil has almost no affect on it. If it ever does it's adjustable to whatever.

I was planning on just using it for rare hunts but I've changed my mind about that.

I'm getting that 8 inch mono coil and doing coinshooting with it.

...Did the Infinium go deeper than the Ace 250 or did the 250 ring on every target that the Infinium sounded off on??????..............................==Jim==

Congrats on the new machine!!! I was out last Sunday (salt beach) with mine and found a "DEEP" merc dime waist high in the water. I had a clear repeatable signal and just dug and dug until it came up black and heavy with a hard mineral skin on it (still cleaning it up)!

The Infinium packs a punch for me at the beach and I love it!!! Do give the detector time and learn what it's telling you. Practice and make sure to use the reverse disc and Iron-check as these do work and help with the digging. I also use the 8" mono coil the most!!!

Good luck with the new machine and HH!!!! ;)

Thanks much and I just had a gut feeling I should order that 8-inch coil. Actually that 8 is really a hard size to beat with any type detector.

I watched that DVD three times already and that Iron-check will be used by me a lot. The ground is filled with iron around here.

It's a cool DVD, that's for sure.

I took the Infinium out again and found several signals worth digging but the ground almost broke my pick axe.

Can't wait for spring!

Badger you will have that infinum humming by the time you can hunt. congrats on your purchace.

Well, all signals were in the top couple of inches, so both machines read them. Of course the ACE 250 could tell me a lot more info, but I wanted to see How the Infinium reacted. I kinda played a guessing game by myself, and lost terribly using the Iinfinium LOL. But I learned one thing....if there are numerous targets either in the coil field or close to it, you have a hard time pinpointing. So to compensate, you move the coil away from all the targets, then slowly bring the coil towards the targets. As soon as you get a signal, stop and dig underneath that section of coil. I tried the same scenario in the water, where I found a coin spill. This was the only way I could get those coins out without getting frustrated. REMEMBER THIS!

John .....If i get a chance this week end i will take my Ace 250 out with the Infinium and give it a try it might help to uderstand the Infinium better on sounds and pinpointing but i do like the Infinium and the 250.I was going to sell my GTI 1500 but now i got that Infinium that i really like i am back with Garrett and will keep my 1500. I have been useing Garretts since about 1982 ..and Minelabs since about 1992..........==Jim==

John ..What you are saying is that as soon as i get a sound with the Infinium don't try to pin point any more just stop and dig that spot?? ......................==Jim==
