Killer relic hunt, congrats! :occasion14:

Toecutter,

Congratulations, your belt plate is a very nice find and well preserved, definitely banner worthy. Could you tell us what state you found the buckle in, I am just curious where one would find Indian War relics. As I am already an expert at finding pull tabs, bottle caps, and other worthless pieces of iron and aluminum, I thought I might broaden my area of expertise by searching for Indian War relics. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

WG2020 I found it at a 1880s home site on state land (public), Im in the thumb of Michigan, I figure the land owner was in the war and this was his...

laimo, professor of engineering, Colonial digger, WG2020, Thank you!! :hello:

Very Nice!!! I'm assuming the "keepers" would look like a civil war sword belt plate?

Not sure what your referring to.... there would have bin a second piece to connect it....

That is simply incredible! BIG congrats!
Banner indeed.

Thank you MKW and Civilman1!!:hello:

Congrats on an excellent find. I found one about 10 years ago, except mine is stamped brass, (see my avatar). I believe it was Steve in Pa. who identified mine as an Indian Wars belt plate also.

Thank you Trezurehunter, wonder what the difference is between stamped and cast

Your cast plate is thicker and more sturdy, with sturdy attachments. The stamped brass is a thin plate that had weaker attachments on the reverse. The Eagle and obverse design on the front, was literally stamped into the brass. I believe the cast plates also have curvature to them, where as the stamped brass plates were flat.

Where they used for the same purpose though? I should have bin more specific, are the stamped ones a later or earlier date ?

Hope you and geo dog are out there on the hunt this sat. Toecutter !! Got to be great stuff there !!
