Two questions,

One: Was it polished before or after finding?

Two: Was it found in association with other artifacts?

If it was found as is with that polished look, then I would say no. Reason behind that determination is that, it is obviously a break, and the break shouldn't be polished. If it wasn't found in conjunction with other artifacts, then it's really going to be hard to prove.

4th picture there is a bulb of depression, so either nature or man took a chunk outta that, so that is to be considered as well.

IKR, if you find it and state "it's a celt!" the phd is gonna say you are crazy, but if they find an aluminum can and say it's treasure...well it must be treasure. I would take any number of folks here to assist in an excavation that I would two or three one track profs. No offense to any members of academia but, sometimes your own deductions and scientific reasoning have already been done by what you call a "looter or treasure hunter". In my experience, people out looking for history, have more respect for history than those in higher education.

Appears to be natural.

I found one a few years before I started metal detecting. It is somewhere in my house right now, but I viewed it last year. It is very distinctive, with deep hand done grooves where the handle would go, and the whole head is very symmetrical. I see some parts on yours (the "blade"), that looks like they may have been worked, but they more likely are just natural.

My parents were Indian artifact hunters. That doesn't look like any axe they found. My parents said Indian axes were used for crushing, not cutting.
