Indian Chief Photo's...

I thought maybe some of you collectors/hunters would like to see some cheif photo's...

Photo take circa 1885.

Standing L-R: Brave Chief (Pawnee), Eagle Chief (Pawnee), Knife Chief (Pawnee), Young Chief (Pawnee), Buffalo Bill Cody, American Horse (Oglala Lakota), Rocky Bear (Oglala Lakota), Flies Above (Oglala Lakota), Long Wolf (Oglala Lakota)

I used my photo software ( torn photo) for the bottom pic, I have decided to frame this pic for my Artifact room. I added it incase anyone would also like to frame it..

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

Nice pictures Molly. Andrew Jackson Blackbird, his Indian name is Mack-aw-de-be-nessay (Black Hawk). He wrote a book with that picture on it in 1887. He was the son of an Ottawa chief and generally goes by the name of Black Hawk taken from the interpretation of the French "L'Olseau noir". He wrote a book that I have "History of the Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan, a grammar of their language, and personal and family history of the author.

It seems strange that the Nayuse warrior has a leopard skin behind him. I wonder if he was hunting in Africa?
P.S Running Antilope looks Like he's wearing a presidential peace metal.
Wolverine.

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

Great pictures Molly. I love looking at these old photos and seeing how they wore certain jewelry pieces. One of them even had a really nice Head Knocker.

Thanks for all the pictures Molly. I look forward to seeing some more.

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

Wolverine, I too wondered about the leopard skin, maybe it was a trade item?
Thankyou for the info, much appreciated. I was hoping to get some help with this thread.

Steve, I was so much hoping to find pics of attire etc, to see how they wore items.. Finding such isn't quite the same without seeing how it was worn..
Thanks sweetheart..

Molly.

Great stuff Molly! Have you ever heard of the Hotel Astor Indian Hall. Great collection of photos. Thanks for the view.

Thanks Viking. No I have never heard of the Hotel. Do you have a link?

Molly..

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

Sorry Molly, not the best link for that site. There is a better link that shows bigger pics in a thumbnail version, cant find it now but i will look more tomorrow, must get some sleep tonight.

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

Looks like a Jaguar hide in the sixth picture, Julius Williams. Oregon is a little far north for those critters. It may be one of the photographers props i guess
