I originally posted this in the "what is it" forum but it was suggested that I post here as well. My husband found this item several years ago in Kansas City, Missouri. Our original thought was that it was a large hook of some kind but we had a friend take it to someone they thought might know what it was and that person deemed it a natural formation. Just thought I'd post here to see if there were any opinions to the contrary. So far, in the other thread, the (few) prevailing thoughts were that it is natural.

I cant identify it but I highly doubt it is natural...

My husband and I can't seem to accept that it's natural either. lol. That's why I keep periodically searching the net and seeing if I can find anything to point otherwise.

(btw, should I delete one of my threads or can I leave them both up?)

Give members time to see the thread... We have some very knowledgeable members on artifacts....

Does not look natural to me. Do you know what type of material it is made from?

Ok, thanks. I just wasn't sure if I could leave two threads up at the same time that are about the same thing. :dontknow:

Some kind of stone. I am not very knowledgeable in that area. Here is a not so great closer shot of it. 010.JPG

Im pretty sure to say that it is a natural concretion type formation...
But i keep those things too, as a curiousity... Still cool!

I have seen them and found them in Missouri, but the curves and shape made me question if it is man made.......

You know, sometimes with natural water erosion nature can come up with some really interesting shapes. I am going to have to agree on your item as being a uniquely shaped rock. Nice find though! :icon_thumright:

P.S. :hello: Welcome to TNET!

Ok, thanks everyone. I'll go with the consensus . My husband and I have seen concretions before, in some pretty amazing shapes. We'd never seen one anywhere close to this one, though, and just couldn't get our initial impression out of our heads.

Should I mark this and the other thread as solved?

Run over to the anthropology dept. at the largest university near you. They can answer your questions...
