I have never posted in a forum before so I'm hoping that I'm doing this correctly!
This interesting rock caught my eye today while I was in the woods behind my house..besides its "egg" shape it has several very smooth, flat spots on it. Is anyone able to provide me with any feedback and/or additional information if this IS an artifact!? Thank you 😊 IMG_7302.JPGIMG_7303.JPGIMG_7304.JPGIMG_7305.JPGIMG_7306.JPGIMG_7307.JPG

The flat spot is very interesting. Just guessing, It could have been a Native American tool for grinding and working leather.

There are 3 defined flat areas to the rock and the texture is abnormally smooth where it is flattened..it just doesn't seem like it could be a natural wearing! Here are some additional pictures..it's hard to capture just how flat and smooth the spots are!IMG_7314.JPGIMG_7321.JPG

As a matter of fact i have dug several stones from cliff dwellings that resemble yours, random flat spots ,so i do know it was probably used for smoothing, grinding, or dressing skins . just curios have you found any other pieces such as arrowheads ,flint chips ?

Where do they let you dig up cliff dwellings?

It definitely looks smooth enough to have been used for grinding. But it also resembles a hammerstone.

I did not have a chance to thoroughly check the area for anything additional, but since it was in my back yard I absolutely intend to check the area much closer as soon as I have some time to do so! I'm excited to hear that there are others that agree that this is not just a regular rock!
