Great post. I remember the article.
I still have several years of IAM. It was a great read when there was little else.

I’ve heated hundreds of lbs of flint. The article is pretty much spot on. I think as native populations increased there was much more pressure on sources of high quality material that didn’t need heat. Lower quality material had to be used. And heated to increase quality. Another reason is populations were more sedentary. No more 200 mi trips to procure flint. They were forced to use local materials of lesser quality. The article made it sound like all Snyders Hopewell points were heated. The Crab Orchard Hopewell in So IL used Cobden flint almost exclusively. It’s high quality and never heated.
