Last week I ticked the Trime off my bucket list. Yesterday, I returned to an 1838 home site that I explored last year where I recovered my first seated quarter and dime, and about 15 other silver coins. About two hours into the hunt, I got a solid 80 on the AT Pro, and try as I might, it stayed locked in at 80 no matter the direction. Because it was only showing 2 inches deep, I would have bet it was going to be a bottle cap - but, man was I surprised! Amazing detail on this beauty. Tick another one off the bucket list!

A three day weekend with mild temps ahead here in Virginia, so I will be out pounding more sites. Thanks for viewing the post, and good luck to all!

OMG, awesome score. That one remains on countless bucket lists. Congrats on digging they beauty. I'd be stoked for a week. :headbang: and have a perma-smile going, cloud nine stuff.

Thanks, Loco. You described me perfectly. My wife told me this morning to get that silly grin off my face!

That is one gorgeous coin! Also sounds like you have a very productive site on your hands. Congratulations!

Thanks, Silvermonkey. An absolutely great site. It's been a year since I first hunted this site, and it has now produced two bucket listers for me. I will definitely be going back again.

Improbable but not impossible! Lol. That's a phenomenal coin. Congrats on the condition as well.

Thanks, Scrappy. Now, if I can only find that Nova Constelatio!

Congrats on such a beautiful detailed coin. Still need one for the bucket list.

Damn!!!! About all I can say about that bad boy. I am making a concerted effort to hunt more modern sites this season so I have a shot at coins like that. Draped and capped silver are high on my list

Thanks, Ahab8. I'm hoping at some point to break into the 1600's like you!

Congrats on a super nice find! Not only did you find an 1820 Bust Dime in VF-20 to VF-25 condition (of course subtracting for the damage), you found the rare and very collectible "STATESOF" Variety (see the letter positioning on the Reverse. In that condition, it is likely at least a $400 to $425 coin but could fetch upwards to $500. I put my Banner vote in for this find.

Frank

Thanks for the comment, and banner vote, Frank. I noticed the "STATESOF" variety in the red book and am not much of an expert on coin grading, but I agree that this one is definitely worth a few bucks. However, this one has found a permanent home!

Hi Tommy G; Frank is spot on in his evaluation. I would possibly give it a bit higher Grade but can't unl;ess I saw it 1st hand. Here is the Story of the Capped Bust Dime ok:

Enjoy. PEACE:RONB

PS: Banner vote is in.

Thanks, Barker. Great story! Now I know why I was confused when I first picked it out of the hole. It struck me as being a little larger than a dime (I had just dug a 1929 Merc about 20 minutes earlier). So my mind was racing, just seeing a hint of detail under the dirt, trying to figure out what it was. It wasn't until I poured some water on it that I realized what I had, so the downsizing of the coin after 1828 now makes since. Thanks for chiming in, and for the banner vote! By the way, I told my wife I thought it was worth about a $100. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!:laughing7:

That's what I keep thinking! Two inches? I can't tell you how many Zincolns I've pulled out at the same depth! Thanks for the comment, Relicific.
