I am worried that many of theses fakes will end up out in the secondary markets. Are there any federal laws regarding silver bullion?
I mean it says its ".999 Fine Silver 1 troy ounce ". Is it even legal to say that? It does have the words clad on it . Is that a ebay requirement?
The average person would not know what clad is and would think this is real silver.

What is that old saying "caveat empore" I'm not sure I spelled it right but it means " let the buyer beware". I hope buyers don't learn the hard way, I know I sure did way back when!...............Merry Christmas!.............Scott.

That is just wrong.

If you think that's bad, you should try searching the "original" artwork. There is a company that sells "original" James Whistler prints made 15 years after he died. When pressed on the point they claim "the paper is original to the period"; but then so is my toilet paper. Their name is "period paper" avoid them.

Funny you posted this, I saw these on eBay today and almost fell for it. It is VERY misleading.

It probably won't come to anything, unless others do the same, but for this reason I filed a complaint with Ebay about these bars. Maybe I am wrong???

T.

I saw them too. It took me awhile to figure out what the deal was. I hope they get pulled. When a new ebay buyer gets scammed, that buyer never comes back to ebay. and if its their first time buying bullion, they probably will never buy bullion again. This hurts them, the sellers and ebay. IMO.

I agree with skeeterd. It hurts everybody and the payoffs, in the long run, are small. China (for instance), as an entire country, has lost it's reputation and in my opinion, their honor with this type of egregious pandering of fakes. If you watch the auctions, for the very same item, no one bids on the Chinese items. If too many people take advantage of a good thing, it cheapens and deadens the whole market. People forget that they're marketing largely to a society that has been inundated, all their lives, every day, all day by professional marketeers and most don't easily buy in to hyped up garbage; or at least, not more than once. Now that doesn't mean there aren't still fools out there, there are. There's just not as many as there were in the days of Sigmore's "pink air" campaign.

Forget the fact that these are plated or "clad" in silver. Why would anyone even consider paying $72 for an ounce of silver even if they were solid and not clad?

I have seen these in our local pawn shops--very deceiving!

Most people should know its BS, Mainly because of the price. But its like the old phone scams to the elderly, I looked at his Feedback, and made it thru 10 pages before i saw the Negitive Feedback of someone saying it wasnt real..Its not Illegal what he is doing, its just out there to catch people off guard,

It isnt any worse than what the Franklin Mint does..they actually go as far as tellign you how much gold is going up, on there Spray Painted Gold Buffalo coin...I only buy trustworthy names , especially on the Bars...To easy to get screwed over these days

The auction seems legit, but those bars and rounds should be illegal as they are intentionally misleading. If you failed to read the auction discription and bought based off the picture it would be very easy to get scammed.

Doesn't matter really. They do say they are 1 troy ounce of silver and if they aren't, clad or not, then the ebay listing needs to be removed. I can clad silver bars in anything I want, but the fact remains that it is listed as 1 troy ounce of .999 silver.

The listing has since been removed but please don't say things that aren't true. The item was listed as "2012: 1 Troy Ounce .999 SILVER EAGLE MORGAN DOLLAR Clad Bar -1 of 999".

Yes, very VERY sneaky.

Search "clad silver" on eBay and you will see thousands of these listings. This guy is making a fortune, and it appears his buyers have no idea what they purchased. Meanwhile, he is laughing all the way to the bank. eBay should not allow this.

Its not just Ebay .. I just found this on Amazon, I figured they would not allow that on thier site..they are calling it 1oz Silver Ingot....This is worse than the "Art Bars' BullS!!!!

Amazon.com: 1 Troy Ounce .999 Silver Clad Ingot Walking Liberty Eagle Half Dollar, 1916 Bar - World Treasures Mint's Top 15 U.S. Currency Coin Designs Series: Everything Else

I watched a commercial for a similar "gold" coin the other day and it was absolutely brutal how the pitch was made, totally towards those who don't have a clue. Very carefully chosen words - basically a disclaimer for those who knew enough to understand it all. They are almost as bad as seeing the hidden face in one of the squares on the tiger image and calling in to win a prize. Does anyone know what I am talking about? It's unreal what's legal to take stupid people's money
