Importance of Provenance and 'Value'

Today I saw a small emerald for sale on Ebay. It is in my opinion an ugly duckling. However, it was found in 1985 by Mel Fisher and Co, and comes with certificate, signed sealed and delivered as being from the Atocha. Starting bidding price: $12,999. Hmm?

Another Tner here once posted of finding emeralds on a local treasure coast beach. His emeralds looked better in my opinion, or at the least, as good as the famous Atocha emeralds.

I hinted then on his thread the importance of finding any connection to a ship wreck. This Atocha emerald story, if you will, validates the importance of such connections. I've posted the photo.
