This is a false argument. The immigrants that came here in the 1800s-1900s never recieved medicaid, food stamps, or section 8 housing. They came here with a sponsor and papers. The new immigrants are bankrupting states, not adding to our national economy, or building our roads, buildings, etc.

Most came with sponsors and papers - no way. Most came through Ellis island with little more than there name (and sometimes not even that). Yes that stuff didnt exist back them for immigrants or for citizens. A good chunk of our citizens now tax those exact same systems.

Last point - I would stay away from blanket statement. There are highly productive educated immigrants and there are those who come to this country to use and abuse - same thing as the citizens of this nation!!

Targeting the immigrant is nothing new in the us or most other countries in the world. We always target the "others". Read up on your history, same exact arguments made every time and every time it was "different than any other time in the past". This will likely continue until the end of time.

And back in the day immigrants were responsible for crime, taxed charities, and did burdened city social service programs. Of course there were not formal federal/state programs like welfare. Don't get me wrong illegal immigrants are criminals and do not belong in this country. I'm talking about LEGAL immigrants.

We are going to spend $5-TRILLION to give criminal border crossers a "pathway to citizenship" if we let Washington go ahead with the new immigration bill. Would it cost ANY less to cut off all financial aid and start rounding them up? Don't you think without free food housing and healthcare many would self-deport? I would rather spend my tax dollars booting them out. They hate us anyway so what is the diff?

No, I think as long as there are no opportunities for employment in their own countries they will come here. It's a very simple equation for them. No work in your country, you go elsewhere for work.

Take away the incentive and they will starve in their own country. No need to pay them Billions of Dollars of our tax money here. Stop the freebies, and they will stop coming.

The government estimates that immigration "reform," is going to cost $5-Trillion. Would it REALLY cost more to start rounding up and deporting illegal border crossers? If we did cut ALL social benefits (Food Stamps, Section-8 Housing, Medicaid) and started rounding them up, don't you think MANY would "self-deport?"

Terry, don't forget that money is not an issue here. They just print it.

They come for the opportunity to earn money as much as anything else I believe. Again, how do you keep someone out of this country if they want to come. The best way to do that is to get them to stay were they are in my opinion.

One more time Stockpicker, if we stop giving a reason to come here and start dumping them back into Mexico, then Mexico will stop the Central Americans at THEIR border and the Mexicans will have no reason to come here. There are more illegal immigrants in Arizona Labor and Delivery units than American Citizens 55% of the time. Americans have to stand in line BEHIND illegal immigrants to get food stamps and section 8 housing.

Picker, if you make life so much better in Mexico and Central America with our tax dollars that they no longer want to come here, is it ok for me to go there so they can take care of me?
