i'm not sure ? i need your help on this one

this was dug up at a 1850's house in the back yard where the garden was located
it's 1 1/4" wide and 1 1/4" high it does not stick to a magnet an it's heavy for it's size
the pins are 3/8th" apart and they are 3/8th" long and their almost 1 1/2 mm wide
i'm thinking it was a horse(maybe female) decoration on a leather strap ? ? other than
that i'm stumped i have dug a few stick pins and i measured one pin 1/4"long and
1mm wide anyone ever dig one of these ? anyone know what they were used for ?

i added a stick pin for comparison

thanks for looking HH

No real knowledge. I've lived in Germany for about eight years total and have seen a good number of pins that look like yours. My guess is that it represents an Alpine house in the summer. It might have also been on the strap to Swiss (Alpine) Cow Bell. Sorry I can't help more but just my best guess.

maybe pewter which is very similar to lead in most respects -- it was often used to make cheap jewelry and such . to me it appears to be a large type pin maybe worn on a old large type sun hat used by women who like to putter in their garden --jah jah ompah pa pa

Maybe a garden marker - definitely not something to put on a harness, that I can think of (stab the animal).

There are much smaller clutches for pins - like the ones that you put on earrings.

Of course, there are building decorations - where you just tap ceramic decorations right into a wall.

Neat item.

thanks for the reply mrs. oroblanco i'm glad you like the little house with flowers :D
you corrected me on pins and earings i called them attachments you gave me the correct
term " clutches " thanks much

ivan do believe you are correct in saying pewter at first i thought lead by it's weight then i scraped it
with my nail on the back and someone suggested it's the color of lead but it's not soft like lead i'm sure
if i tried to bend it it would snap sure has some weight to it
and as you say and the others a large type(pewter) pin on a large type hat used by women who putter in
the garden makes sense to me beings where it was found thanks for your help :)

Still sticking to the "outside use" garden Marker theory. for something to be placed as a hatpin they would have made it out of a different metal, if it was a cheaper item tin maybe not lead or peweter as some have surmised. This is way to heavy to be used in that fashion.
