Hey Jason, I apologize for the foolish attempt at humor I made earlier. I'm sorry if it came off as crude, I was only trying to lighten the mood a bit!

Please keep us posted concerning your experiences once you get to try these suggestions out!

Happy Hunting!

Sky Pilot

Not at all sir, and I'll let you guys know how I do.

I would just suggest that you forget about wearing sunglasses as not to hide your eyes..

That is unless you have crazy eyes, if that's the case, look into another hobby :laughing9:

I'll leave the sunglasses at home as I don't have the Marty Feldman look going :icon_thumright:

Re: I'm not Brave!

Thanks Jason!

It's great to know that you have such a good sense of humor! :icon_sunny: I look forward to hearing of your success! :headbang:

Not afraid of asking as long as it's the real owner. Asked a guy one day and he said, "No problem"...even wrote me a permission letter and he signed it. Not too long after that I was detecting that field and here comes this big red truck screaming at me, skids to a stop, dirt flying everywhere, huge image of a man jumps out and he's looking really pissed off, heck, his britches were as big as my jeep. Anyway, come to find out that he was the real owner of the property, the guy who signed my letter was just his playful neighbor. Eventually the big guy laughed it all off but I gotta tell you, I darn near had to drive my jeep home standing up. :laughing7:

OMG! I spit coffee all over the computer when I read this - I'm still giggling like a little girl! Too funny. So, I'm cruising along in a very historical area that I researched on Google Earth, and I see a lady walking her dog up the driveway of the estate where this field is I want to check out. I stop and get out and she stops. I walk up the driveway and ask if she is the property owner. She replies that yes she and her husband own the property and fields across the street. So I asked permission to look for musket balls and she said sure. Winning! 40-minutes later I see a Range Rover pull into the driveway across the field. He stops, rolls down his window and looks, I wave, he drives up to the house. Ten-minutes later the local law enforcement officer had my drivers license in his hand! --- Wife has Alzhiemers, didn't even remember seeing me. Only thing that saved me was I knew the dog's name because she told him to behave. Scared the bejeebers out of me and the husband was pissed. - Terry

Re: I'm not Brave!

Man Terry, Bigscoop's was funny, but yours was downright scary! Did the husband ever understand that you were above board with it, or did he think you were a hooligan all the way through?

Bad situation, right there! Glad you didn't get shot or go to jail!

Re: I'm not Brave!

Luckily I can handle myself if stuff got crazy, but wow...I hope something like never happens.

Re: I'm not Brave!

No biggie, one in thousands man! Remember the odds!

Besides, it all worked out good!

Sad, his wife being sick though.

Re: I'm not Brave!

Sky Pilot, your odds of being turned down (1 in 12) are exactly the same as mine. Bald? I just say, rubbing my head, "Thigh Burns".

Re: I'm not Brave!

Well I got permission to hunt a yard tomorrow, some woman I work with. I just blocked out the negative thoughts and worries and asked her...she said "Sure"...old house to so I'll bring my camera along and hopefully find something good.

Re: I'm not Brave!

see got a yes --have a "upbeat attitude" -- having that "fear" of getting a NO in you shows on yer face , people learn to read folks faces -- if you got a odd look (nerviousness) on your face it shows , and can cause folks to go --uhhh no....

not that everyone is going to go "yes" mind you -- but having a good additude about it helps you relax and be well more "normal" acting.

That's what I'm talking about!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Way to go, Jason!!!! Now wasn't that one of the easiest things you've ever done? Door to door isn't any different as far as the basics go!

You'll probably get more spots to search from curious passersby!! Lots of times in a good producing "old" neighborhood I go door to door with fine results (permission and treasure).

@ Ivan:

Heck, I'm bald too. I think it plays in my favor, but then I tend to be a glass half full type man. LOL!!

Did you try it out today, Farscape?

Sky Pilot

I was just about to head out when the wife informed me I would be watching the kids while she went to the casino.
Reminds me of the motorcycle commercial I seen were that happens to another fella and he can not find his motorcycle to take off with his pals, only to find out the wife already has it !!!!! ::)

I think it just freaked him out because I could have been anybody walking up on his wife - and she seemed absolutely normal at the time, and I think just the reality of her situation and his guilt or worry about leaving her alone just snapped that day. Really sad. But, it all worked out. - Terry

My father has Alzhiemers, I run into similar memory issues with him every day. Gotta feel for the husband, tough situation.
As for the huge guy in the bibs and his playful neighbor, ended up getting to know both of them very well, did a lot of business with them, both are really nice guys and a hoot to be around. However, you did have to watch your back 24/7 as they are both very big on pranks. I think in this day and age it's just a natural human response to be suspect of strangers, especially when you find them standing on your property with what looks to be a high-tech stun gun in their hand. :laughing7:

Re: I'm not Brave!

@ Terry: I'd say you nailed it when you said he might have felt guilty for leaving her alone. I do feel for them, it must be horrible to be in that situation.

@ Bigscoop: God bless y'all. Your Dad is fortunate to have you, obviously he raised you very well.

Re: I'm not Brave!

I've been getting to know a few "prospects" by asking to take photos of their field, land, barn, etc and compliment like crazy.

Here is a barn photo I took on a property that is going to be great to hunt! Little by little they get to know and realize that your not crazy (or that you are crazy but harmless!)

Farscape- If you're ever in RI you can hunt with me! I'm not scared of ya!

Re: I'm not Brave!

I have a new method I'm going to try out, my sister said she will come with me and ask people :headbang:

Re: I'm not Brave!

I haven't asked many people for MDing permission but, the couple times I have
it really seems to help having the wife and kids with you if you can......
If you're not "blessed" with a family maybe barrow someone else's .
