I'm looking for a virgin?

I have been hard at it, knocking on doors, getting shot down. I have also been getting allot of yes's, only problem is the sites have been already hunted. I had an old house, hit the front yard and got some cars and I don't know how many clad dimes (I don't count clad, just check them and throw them in there respected drawers) next day I go back to that house and the guy tells me he talked to the wife and she informed him that husband before him had 25 years ago owned a detector and detected the living bejeasus at the house. ( I did not even find a wheatie there) I spent good two and a half hours there. The neighbor there came out so I bum rushed her and asked permission, she informed me that her friend was there last week and they detected it, sorry no, saving it for them. Today I hit a place down the st., not too old, maybe 1940's, little tiny yard, so I was able to hit it real good, last little area I find what I thought was a 1943 wheat, turned out to be a 1945 (bad eyes) (had me going, was exciting until I got home, ha, lol) I found that interesting religious metal too. Went and knocked on another door after lunch with my dog and guy says yes except he owns detector and has detected his property over and over and over. I took this as a challenge and second target in I find a 1952 D wheatie (guy says he has a whites) I finished up at neighbors house around the corner that last summer I found about six wheats, found one more wheat, 1950

After dinner I'm going out knocking on doors again, have to find that virgin yard that has not been touched, enjoy the pix, and thanks for looking.

hey buddy. hope you get that untouched yard soon. by the way what are those things in your picture with "54" on them. I found abunch the other day.some sort of "tag"?

A local old man came in to my work and I asked him a few questions about my area. In the end I got three local property's over 150 years old that he owns that I'm free to detect whenever. I say just keep asking certain people whenever you can and you never know what places will turn up to hunt. :)

I never knock on doors. If I see someone outside of a place I am interested in I will drive by and park my car around the corner. Throw on my 'Garrett' hat, walk by and strike up a conversation. "good morning nice day today isn't it?" Owner "sure is." if the owner is talkative it's fairly easy to throw in the idea of detecting. It's worked for me so far. If it's open country like farms and such I usually go to country stores/restaurants/coffee shops and strike up conversations with locals, get leads and introductions to the owners. Then I outright tell them I'm a detectorist and would be interested in detecting their property. I also find by doing it this way if you get permission from one owner they are likely to help you out with permission from other folks. Anyhoo just my two cents. Oh yeah I always ask owners if they need help with anything. If I can help the owner they appreciate that as well. Cheers all Hope this helps.

I remember them as a kid, I swear they have something to do with either the phone lines or electric lines, IDK.
I just ate lunch, headed out to try and get a permit signed, might get me back to a good spot. If the permit gets signed it opens up acres where I was once finding Barbers.

Those things that say 54 are for car license plates, they used them in Delaware before they came up with stickers for the year of expiration. The license plate had little slots and the 54 tag would have tabs that you pushed into the slots and then bent the tabs to keep it secured. At least thats what I think the 54 things are, I have detected them also.

Interesting how stuff from other states get all over the place. Would make sence why there are two of them with same serial number on them, might not be able to see it, but there are numbers above the "54"

I always try and get off the main roads to hunt houses. Some of the best places where I have found the most coins have been at small houses. To me the only real reason why I use old Sanborn maps is to find the older areas where it isn't obvious that there would be anything. 90% of the treasure hunters are cruising along and looking for the obviously older places.

I don't really do the yard sell thing, but I have speculated that if someone got out early Saturday morning toward the old parts of town and hit the yard sales just to get leads and permission to hunt houses, if this wouldn't be a good approach. I really don't care about the kids clothes or glassware, but to get permission on an older property to search would make it worth stopping by.

Good one, I tried it once and the woman looked at me like she was going to shoot me??? IDK must of been a bad sale just before I asked her, haaaaa lol

The pendents nice, and cant complain about wheats, you'll get it and i love hunting already "hunted" places, so much easier to get to the goods after someone gets all the trash out for ya! ;)

That yard the guy has the whites, I'm going back with my smaller coil, the one area has a million targets

I agree, but I think what happened was last spring the first place I came up with the idea of hunting turned out to be a virgin yard (it was also WMA) I pulled 12 silvers out of there. Being the second place I ever hunted threw me for a loop, these past 6 months have been a reality check for me. Especially here in south Jersey, I would love to know the number of metal detectors per square mile. I bet it's the highest in the country.

We have a good amount of MD'ers here too, I'm sure!
Still a good bunch of finds. You just have to think out side the box, keep in mind the yard may not have the same configuration now as it has in the past, like bushes, porches, trees, walls, places some don't detect because it isn't easy.
Pulled out a nice gold religious medallion right next to a sea wall containing rebar, had to go very slow and really listen, it was 10" deep.
You'll come up with some nice goodies!

Just found a crazy good looking virgin spot. Finally built the guts to knock on a door to ask about a spot I seen cleared in a old picture. Not only did the guy say yes he took me for a walk to show me were a old foundation was. On the way I pointed out three other cellar depressions he didn't even know about. The spot was settled about 200 years old and is prime for hunting. He said nobody was ever detecting on it and help myself anytime so hopefully tomorrow I will get the time to go. Knocking on a strangers door does pay off sometimes and I just may have to have the guts to try another spot I've been eyeing up! (:
